The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers - Quezon City Chapter (PSME-QC) recently had an eye-opening and highly productive tour of the DOST - Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI)! This visit marks a significant milestone in our commitment to advancing energy solutions, engineering excellence, and national development.

We were honored to be joined by an esteemed delegation of engineering leaders for this walkthrough:

A major highlight of the visit was our sit-down with Dr. Vallerie Ann I. Samson, Officer-in-Charge/Director of PNRI. Our fruitful discussions yielded highly actionable outputs for the future of nuclear energy in the Philippines:

🤝 Forging Stronger Collaborations: Initiating partnerships with the local government through PSME QC via talks on nuclear advocacy, alongside bridging the gap for stronger ties between PNRI and the Academe.

📜 Paving the Regulatory Pathway: Committing to support the path to nuclear energy by providing vital engineering inputs for regulations, standards, and guidelines for Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) licensing.

🌍 Global Integration & Conventions: Championing and supporting the Philippines' entry into crucial international nuclear conventions, specifically:
1. Joint Convention on Spent Fuel & Radioactive Waste Management
2. Convention on Nuclear Safety
3. Protocol for the amendment of the Vienna Convention
4. Convention on Supplementary Compensation

🏛️ Legislative Backing & Advocacy: Throwing our support behind the nuclear liability bill and the broader pathway toward establishing our own nuclear reactors.
🛠️ Uniting Disciplines: A strong call to action inviting other related engineering disciplines to join the cause and actively support this vital nuclear advocacy.

Celebrating our newest milestones!

We had a productive and inspiring evening at The Accolade Place in Cubao, Quezon City for our Monthly Chapter Meeting conducted last April 29. Beyond our regular agenda, the highlight of the night was a special mini-celebration for our dedicated members who successfully took the Professional Mechanical Engineer (PME) examination.

Taking the leap toward the PME license is a massive achievement, and we are incredibly proud of your commitment to excellence in the profession.
