The Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) is a southern-based global network which builds and strengthens movements for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and justice, and has been doing so for over 30 years. WGNRR recognises the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people. Focusing on access to contraceptives, access to safe and legal abortion and the full realisation of one’s sexual rights; WGNRR advocates with and for the most vulnerable and marginalised communities. Our target groups include youth, the LGBTQI communities, people living with HIV/AIDS, to name a few. WGNRR is a member-focused organisation, and strives to achieve SRHR for all by connecting members and allies; organising campaigns; and sharing resources.

🤝 Through collective action, civil society, allies, and movements can strengthen systems of care, protection, resistance, and solidarity.

We are part of a diverse reproductive justice ecosystem connecting abortion justice with universal healthcare, gender justice, disability justice, LGBTQIA+ rights, racial justice, migrant justice, workers’ rights, peace, and democracy.

September 28 - International Safe Abortion Day, may have passed, but our organising, care, resistance, and solidarity continue.

Beyond , civil society and movements can sustain by sharing resources, knowledge, strategies, platforms, protection, and power; strengthening community-led care; centring affected communities as leaders and decision-makers; and coordinating action across movements and borders.

Their design choices, algorithms, and content moderation policies influence whether people can find accurate abortion information, protect their privacy, navigate services, and connect with trusted support.

September 28 - International Safe Abortion Day, may have passed, but the responsibility to protect digital access, privacy, and safety continues.

Beyond , technology actors can sustain by preventing unjustified censorship, protecting users from surveillance and harassment, countering misinformation, safeguarding personal data, and ensuring that technology and AI systems do not reproduce anti-abortion bias or discrimination.

The stories they tell, and the language, images, and voices they centre, can either reinforce harmful narratives or affirm abortion as care, healthcare, a human right, and a matter of reproductive justice.

This International Safe Abortion Day, we call on systems stakeholders to recognise comprehensive abortion care as essential healthcare.

They must integrate comprehensive abortion care into universal health coverage and national health systems by removing legal, administrative, financial, and institutional barriers.

This requires ensuring safe, timely, affordable, confidential, stigma-free and quality-assured care, including medicines, trained providers, referral and post-abortion services. It also demands strengthening decentralised and community-based models, including self-managed abortion and telehealth; and protecting providers, community workers, advocates, accompaniments and people seeking abortion from criminalisation, surveillance, harassment, and violence.
