The Associated Philippine Seafarers’ Union (APSU) celebrated its 42nd Founding Anniversary through an afternoon of solidarity, fellowship, and meaningful celebration together with ALU employees and officers.

The celebration began with inspiring welcome remarks from Sir Gerard R. Seno, the National Executive Vice President of ALU/APSU, followed by a meaningful solidarity message from Deputy Speaker Raymond Democrito Mendoza and a message of support from Doctor Mokitz Mendoza, NVP of the Health Services Division — reminding everyone of APSU’s enduring commitment to Filipino workers and seafarers.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the APSU Quiz Bee, where employees enthusiastically tested their knowledge about APSU’s history, milestones, and advocacies. The energy, teamwork, and laughter carried throughout the luncheon truly made the celebration memorable for everyone.

The program concluded with a heartfelt message of gratitude from Atty. Generick Humprey V. Morales, APSU NVP for Operations, thanking all employees, officers, and partners for their continued commitment and support in advancing the welfare of Filipino seafarers and workers.

Here’s to 42 years of service, solidarity, and continuing the fight for the welfare and dignity of Filipino seafarers and workers!

“The thoughts of everyone in the ITF and all maritime unions worldwide will be with those who have lost their lives in this tragedy - as well as the families and friends they have left behind - those who are still missing, and those being treated in hospital," said Generick Morales, Vice Chair of the ITF’s Ferry Task Force, from ITF affiliate Associated Philippine Seafarers Union - APSU.
"Our deepest thanks go out to the search and rescue crews of the Philippine Coast Guard who have rescued more than 300 survivors. We await what must be a thorough investigation into this tragedy, so we know that everything possible is done to make sure such a disaster never happens again.”

The coastguard says at least 317 people have been rescued so far, while 24 others remain missing.
