The Institute for Popular Democracy (IPD) is a non-profit research and advocacy institute. It was established in 1986, following EDSA 'people power' revolution. It sought to maximize and broaden the emergent democratic space following the revolution by pushing for political reforms, promoting pluralist politics within the progressive and democratic movements, and helping build popular coalitions t
o intervene in crucial political issues. IPD defines itself as an agent for democratization in the Philippines and for empowering civil society organizations, popular organizations, and progressive political parties. IPD's work is focused on local governance, essential services (health, housing, water, etc.), social movements, political reforms, and international solidarity.
