💚 Meet the new legislative champion of the Rights of Nature!

We sincerely thank Hon. Aniela Bianca D. Tolentino Aniela Tolentino for co-authoring “AN ACT TO RECOGNIZE AND PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF NATURE IN THE PHILIPPINES” (HB 07698). As one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, the Philippines needs bold action to protect forests, mangroves, wetlands, rivers, mountains, and other ecosystems that safeguard communities, regulate water, absorb carbon, and sustain livelihoods.

The Rights of Nature Bill offers a transformative path by recognizing that trees, ecosystems, and the natural world have an inherent right to exist, thrive, regenerate, and evolve. Protecting nature is not only an environmental responsibility, it is a climate action imperative. When ecosystems are healthy, communities become more resilient and better prepared to face the climate crisis.

QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES | September 10, 2026 — The proposed Pax Silica Hub in New Clark City, a one thousand six hundred (1,600) hectare artificial intelligence, semiconductor, and hyperscale data center complex, is being promoted as a pathway to national competitiveness and technological modernization.

We assert that no form of development can be considered progress if it undermines community well-being, accelerates ecological collapse, and violates ecosystems' inherent rights.

Recent reports reveal the scale of the project’s resource demands: thirty-nine (39) billion liters of water annually, equivalent to the irrigation needs of thousands of hectares of rice land; three (3) gigawatts of electricity relying heavily on LNG; massive solar farms requiring 20,000+ hectares of land; and water extraction scenarios reaching 500,000 cubic meters per day, which can threaten aquifer stability and food production in Tarlac and neighboring provinces.

These figures show that Pax Silica represents a new frontier of extractivism, where digital infrastructure justifies large-scale water diversion, land conversion, and energy expansion at the expense of ecological integrity.

Nature should not become collateral for digitalization. Nature or ecosystems possess intrinsic rights to exist, evolve, and regenerate. These rights cannot be subordinated to the demands of AI cooling systems, semiconductor manufacturing, or hyperscale data operations.

🌽 Ngayong linggo, nakikiisa ang Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. sa pagdiriwang ng !

Nagbibigay-pugay tayo sa ating mga magsasaka na patuloy na nagsusulong ng seguridad sa pagkain, nag-iingat sa ating yamang agrikultural, at nangangalaga sa mayamang biodiversity ng bansa. Ang kanilang kaalaman at dedikasyon sa paglinang ng mga katutubong binhi ay mahalaga sa pagtataguyod ng karapatan ng kalikasan at ng mga susunod na henerasyon.

Sa kasalukuyan, ang Magsasaka at Siyentipiko para sa Pag-unlad ng Agrikultura (MASIPAG), isa sa mga miyembro ng Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. (PMPI), ay nangangalaga sa 105 traditional corn varieties. Patunay ito sa mahalagang papel ng mga magsasaka sa pangangalaga ng agrobiodiversity at sa pagsusulong ng isang makatarungan, matatag, at makakalikasang sistema ng pagkain.

🌾 Ngayong linggo, ipinagdiriwang natin ang Rice Week!

Mahalaga ang palay sa ating seguridad sa pagkain, kabuhayan ng mga magsasaka, at pangangalaga sa ating agrobiodiversity. Bilang kasaping organisasyon ng Philippine Misereor Partnership Inc. (PMPI), patuloy na isinusulong ng Magsasaka at Siyentipiko para sa Pag-unlad ng Agrikultura (MASIPAG) ang konserbasyon at pagpapaunlad ng mga katutubong at farmer-developed na binhi. Sa kasalukuyan, pinangangalagaan nito ang 772 tradisyunal na uri ng palay, 203 farmer-bred rice varieties, at 1,205 MASIPAG rice varieties.

Ang mga farmer-bred rice ay pinalahi ng mga magsasaka mula sa iba't ibang bahagi ng Pilipinas, habang ang MASIPAG Rice naman ay pinalahi sa backup farm ng MASIPAG sa Nueva Ecija. Ipinamamahagi at patuloy na napapanatili ang mga binhing ito sa mga kasaping magsasaka sa pamamagitan ng 188 trial farms sa buong bansa (batay sa datos noong 2025).

Sa pagdiriwang ng Rice Week, kinikilala natin ang mahalagang ambag ng mga magsasaka sa pangangalaga ng ating yamang agrikultural. Ang pagpapanatili ng iba't ibang uri ng palay ay mahalaga sa pagpapalakas ng biodiversity, pagsusulong ng napapanatiling agrikultura, at pagtataguyod ng isang mas matatag at makatarungang sistema ng pagkain para sa lahat.
