DSSM is a simple, reliable, and inexpensive test done by properly trained technologist to detect the infectious cases of TB. The World Health Organization's (WHO) global strategy to control the TB epidemic is through Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS). DOTS relies primarily on DSSM for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in patients.
