The Society of Jesus Social Apostolate PH network joins the wider Ignatian family in thanksgiving for the ordination of our new Jesuit Priests: Fr. Dom Joseph B. Bulan, SJ, Fr. Bien Emmanuel C. Cruz, SJ, and Fr. James Augustus R. Santos, SJ. ✨

Today, Fr. Dom and Fr. James officiated the monthly Social Development Community mass among Manila-based SJSA members weeks before heading to their first assignments as Jesuit priests. Fr. Dom will serve the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service while Fr. Bien will serve the Bukidnon Mission District, both of which are members of the SJSA. Fr. James will head to Myanmar to serve the Faber Jesuit Community and St. Aloysius Gonzaga Institute of Higher Studies.

We continue to pray for our new Jesuit priests in the next chapters of their lives as stewards towards the work of justice and peace! 🙏

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani, Mindanao, affecting communities across Southern Mindanao, particularly in Sarangani, South Cotabato, General Santos City, and nearby areas. The earthquake caused damage to homes and infrastructure and prompted evacuations in several communities.

Grassroots People’s Initiative To Push Through Amid Passage of “Pro-Dynasty” House Bill 8389

Grassroots coalition Dapat Isa Lang Movement (D1L) is pushing through its bid to pass an anti-political dynasty bill via people's initiative amid the passing of House Bill 8389, a bill which critics have deemed “pro-dynasty.”

“This pro-dynasty bill is exactly why we wish to pass a genuine anti-political dynasty law through people’s initiative: we deserve a better law that is for the people, not dynasties,” D1L Spokesperson Atty. Carlo Africa stated.

The movement is currently collecting signatures nationwide to push a referendum toward passing a genuine Anti-Political Dynasty bill where each political family will only be allowed to run and hold office in one national and one local elected position; the prohibition per family is up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and affinity; there is no permitted succession, replacement, or switching of positions; and a cooling-off period of 1 term before another member from the same family can run and occupy the same position in succession.

D1L Co-convener Atty. Alex Lacson remarks, “Passing a weak pro-dynasty House Bill is an obvious move for a dynasty-filled Congress. Dynasties will benefit from House Bill 8389, not us ordinary Filipinos–huwag tayo magpabudol dito!”

Now more than ever, D1L calls on all Filipinos to join the growing movement towards passing a genuine anti-political dynasty bill not through congressional approval, but through the approval of the Filipino people.

“Tuloy ang laban para sa isang tunay na anti-dynasty bill. Sa puntong ito, tayo na bilang ordinaryong mamamayan ang magpapasa nito,” Atty. Africa ended. # # #
