On August 18, 2026, MedNet and the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) met online to discuss upcoming collaborative projects aimed at strengthening Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

The meeting brought together MedNet Executive Director Jhon Robert Ko and Chief of the MPOS ADR Division, Rafsan Johnny Abdul, along with members of their respective teams.

As both organizations continue to explore areas for collaboration, they are cooking up exciting projects and initiatives that seek to advance ADR and contribute to more effective, empowering, and community-responsive approaches to conflict resolution in Mindanao.

On this 95th National Heroes Day, MedNet honors the Filipinos who showed courage, compassion, and commitment in shaping our nation. Their stories remind us that heroism is not always found in grand acts. Sometimes, it is in the everyday choice to stand for peace, listen to others, and work toward a better future.

At MedNet, we believe that peace begins with people who choose dialogue over division and understanding over conflict. May we continue to carry the spirit of our heroes by choosing peace, promoting understanding, and becoming mediators of positive change in our own communities.

A step toward more work with farming communities in Negros.

MedNet Executive Director Jhon Robert Ko visited the Department of Agrarian Reform Negros Island Region (DAR NIR) Office in Bacolod, where he met with the DAR NIR Personnel to discuss the needs and realities of Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) and explore opportunities for collaboration.

As the partnership takes shape, MedNet looks forward to finding ways to bring its peacebuilding and conflict transformation work to farming communities.

MedNet’s Alternate VP for Luzon, Ms. Rachel “Che” Aquino, was invited by the Batong Malake Lupong Tagapamayapa to serve as a facilitator for its three-part Basic Mediation Training held on July 24, July 31, and August 7, 2026, at the Batong Malake Barangay Hall in Los Baños, Laguna.

Led by Lupon Chair Ian Kalaw and Lupon President Dedz Mijares, the training series aimed to strengthen the barangay’s conflict resolution mechanisms and equip members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa from Batong Malake and other participating barangays with practical tools for handling and resolving conflicts.

Through sessions on the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP) Law, effective communication, the Circle of Conflict, the Mediation Diamond, and reframing, Ms. Aquino shared practical approaches to mediation and conflict resolution drawn from MedNet’s work and experience.

Supporting communities in strengthening their capacity to manage and resolve conflicts is part of what MedNet does, and we are glad to have contributed to this initiative of the Batong Malake Lupong Tagapamayapa.

Over three Saturdays, on July 11, 18, and 25, 2026, MedNet successfully conducted its Training of Trainers 2026, bringing together selected MedNet trainers to refresh their knowledge, enhance their facilitation skills, and reaffirm their commitment to peacebuilding, conflict transformation, and mediation.

Designed as both a refresher and a space for shared learning, the training equipped our trainers to support MedNet's growing capacity-building initiatives. As MedNet continues to expand its programs through its partnership with KZE Misereor and future collaborations, these trainers will help facilitate learning activities across our communities and partner organizations.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our Master Trainers, Ms. Rachel "Che" Aquino, Ms. Rosemarie "Tootsie" Herrera, and Ms. Luz Divina C. Anung, for generously sharing their expertise, insights, and years of experience. Your guidance has strengthened our community of trainers and inspired us to continue growing together.

MedNet met with the NCIP Region IX as part of the continuing discussions toward a forthcoming collaboration in support of Indigenous Peoples in Pagadian City.

The meeting focused on discussing plans, aligning priorities, and preparing for the next steps toward formalizing the collaboration. Through this partnership, MedNet and NCIP Region IX seek to support initiatives that promote the rights, welfare, and meaningful participation of Indigenous Peoples in conflict resolution.

MedNet X Mabuwaya. Building partnerships for people and the environment 💚

The Mediators Network for Sustainable Peace, Inc. (MedNet) and Mabuwaya Foundation formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement for a project in Sta. Ana, Cagayan focused on Indigenous Peoples and environmental stewardship of the land.

Representing MedNet was Executive Director Jhon Robert Ko, while Mabuwaya Foundation was represented by Executive Director Merlijn Van Weerd and Director of Operations Marites Balbas.

Through this partnership, MedNet and Mabuwaya Foundation strengthen their shared commitment to sustainable peace, Indigenous communities, and the protection of our shared environment.

MedNet Executive Director Jhon Robert Ko joined representatives from government agencies and partner institutions during the 2nd Quarter Meeting of the National Awards Committee for the 2026 Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentives Awards (LTIA), in support of initiatives that strengthen peacebuilding and promote effective dispute resolution at the barangay level.

The meeting was attended by the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Justice, Office of the President, Philippine National Police, Mediators Network for Sustainable Peace, Philippine Institute of Dispute Resolution and Arbitration, and the Bureau of Local Government Supervision.
