Training with intent, aiming with purpose 🎯

ADMU ROTC held its 10th and 11th training days at Clark Air Base, where cadets performed Familiarization Firing with an M16 rifle under the guidance and supervision of our Military Training Instructors (MTIs) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). This activity was followed by an educational tour of the 410th Maintenance Wing 🛩️. During the tour, cadets were briefed on PAF’s history, assets, and current capabilities— highlighting their key contributions to the success of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in fulfilling its mission to serve the nation.

Familiarization Firing, which is an essential component of military training, equips cadets with foundational skills and knowledge regarding proper firearm handling. Through this exercise, they also learn pertinent safety protocols and cardinal rules of gun safety. It also gives cadets the opportunity to become proficient in marksmanship, which further develops their capabilities as future reservists.🎖️

ADMU ROTC remembers the thousands of gallant Filipino and American troops who have surrendered during the Battle of Bataan against Japanese soldiers in World War II. Though many of them are long gone, we honor their bravery and sacrifice in defending our nation and its people.

As cadets and cadet officers, may we always remind ourselves of the valor our heroes have demonstrated, in hopes that we too can emulate these qualities as reservists of the Philippine Air Force.

“My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.” — Rifleman’s Creed 🪖

ADMU ROTC held its 9th training day at Bellarmine Field, where cadets took on their midterm assessment by performing one of the most fundamental skills in military training— field stripping.

The training day began with a lecture regarding the various parts of an M16 rifle, followed by a live demonstration from our Military Training Instructors (MTIs) on weapon assembly and disassembly techniques. Afterwards, each flight had the opportunity to familiarize and prepare for their midterm assessment, applying the lessons and practicing the techniques they learned during the demonstrations and lectures.

The training day culminated with the midterm assessment— a race among each of the four flights, where cadets were challenged to complete their assessments with both speed and accuracy. This not only tested each individual’s skills but also their ability to work under pressure with a team. At the end of the assessment, Flight Delta secured first place and earned their team flight cup points.

Field Stripping refers to the action of manually disassembling a fire without any external tools. During encounters, field stripping may be necessary to troubleshoot problems, temporarily repair broken equipment, or clean the fi****ms from any dirt or debris.

“Before saving anyone else, you must first learn to save yourself” 🏊🏼🛟

For the 8th training day, ADMU ROTC focused on learning and practicing water survival techniques, equipping cadets with essential knowledge to enhance their survivability in the water during emergency situations. From fundamental survival poses in the water to basic rescue swimming strokes, the training equipped cadets to become future reservists who can serve the community in water environments.

The training day began with a lecture and demonstration from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) of the 505th Search and Rescue Group. Afterwards, the cadets proceeded to put their learnings to the test in the water while considering vital survival and swimming techniques such as controlled breathing, proper survival poses, and efficient swimming forms. The training day culminated in a practical assessment, wherein cadets applied their newfound knowledge in rescue strokes and techniques.

Water survival is more than just a skill— it is a crucial life-saving capability that allows individuals to develop confidence and stability in the face of emergencies and life-or-death situations. By studying these techniques, ADMU ROTC cadets take yet another step closer toward embodying the readiness necessary to lead and serve the nation— one life at a time.

"Master of the Battlefield, no matter the terrain" 🌆

ADMU ROTC cadets engaged into the high-intensity world of Close Quarters Battle (CQB) under the instruction of the 720th Special Operations Wing. CQB, a crucial combat skill, emphasizes precision, coordination, and rapid decision-making in confined spaces, particularly in Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT), where engagements occur at close range with little margin for error.

From phases of action to types of attacks, they absorbed the fundamentals of urban warfare. Afterwhich, subject matter experts performed a live demonstration, allowing cadets to observe, analyze, and internalize key tactics before executing them in real-time scenarios.

Cadets then formed into their designated squads for the practical phase, where they applied their knowledge and refined their combat effectiveness through simulated engagements. Using lessons from the lecture and insights from the live demo, they honed their ability to clear rooms, navigate urban structures, and respond to threats with precision and control.

This training sharpened the cadets’ tactical instincts, reinforcing their ability to think fast, move decisively, and operate effectively under pressure, essential qualities for any leader in the field.

"Discipline is the bridge between training and victory."🎖️

ADMU ROTC cadets leveled up their tactical prowess with the second portion of Small Unit Tactics, led by military experts from the 720th Special Operations Wing. This session ensured cadets not only mastered squad-based maneuvers but also internalized the strategic mindset essential for combat leadership.

Cadets assembled into their designated squads, fine-tuning their formation discipline and movement techniques. They kicked off with a rigorous practice run, sharpening team coordination and battlefield communication before advancing to full-scale tactical exercises.

The practical phase put the cadets’ skills to the ultimate test by executing Immediate Action Drills (IADs) with precision and urgency, responding to ambushes, withdrawing under enemy fire, and managing unpredictable civilian encounters. Each maneuver demanded our students split-second decision-making, adaptability, and unwavering composure under pressure.

With every drill, they honed their instincts, forged unbreakable unit cohesion, and embodied the grit of a true soldier, disciplined, tactical, and mission-ready.

“X marks the spot!” 🗺️🧭

On 08 February 2025, ADMU ROTC held its training day on map reading, building the skills necessary for cadets to read coordinates and locate areas while simultaneously putting those lessons to the test through a fun, practical exercise.

The training day began with a classroom lecture on the fundamentals of map reading and land navigation, covering everything from map legend colors to reading coordinates with simple, everyday tools such as rulers, pencils, and protractors. After the lecture, the cadets headed to Bellarmine Field for their practical exercise, which involved completing objectives with their flight using clues and coordinates of locations around the campus and guided only by a map and their basic tools. With teamwork and coordination, the cadets successfully completed their objectives, with Flight Bravo emerging as the top-performing flight of the exercise.

Map reading and land navigation are vital military skills as they are essential for navigating in unfamiliar environments without relying on GPS or phones. By learning these foundational skills, cadets become more well-equipped and ready for future training days and activities within and beyond ADMU ROTC.

"Disappear to Survive."

ADMU ROTC cadets sharpened their fieldcraft skills on their third training day of the semester by receiving expert instruction on Camouflaging, Cover, and Concealment from personnel of the 720th Special Operations Wing.

The session began with a comprehensive classroom lecture covering the principles of blending into the environment, utilizing natural and artificial cover, and minimizing visibility in the field. After the lecture, cadets engaged in a practical immersion exercise in the SOM Forest, where they tested their ability to remain undetected in a concealment drill.

These skills not only enhanced the cadets' tactical proficiency but also developed their critical thinking, adaptability under pressure, and strategic awareness - essential qualities for staying ahead in any mission.

As each training day unfolds, the cadets continue to forge themselves into resilient and capable leaders, ready for any challenge that comes their way.
