As we enter the observance of Holy Weekโ€”a time for reflection, renewal, and purposeโ€”we are reminded of the importance of creating spaces where more voices can be heard and supported.

In this spirit, PYWP is extending the application period for the Women for Water: IWA Membership Grants for Filipina Young Water Professionals.

We hope to reach and encourage more womenโ€”especially from Visayas and Mindanao, as well as Filipina water professionals based overseasโ€”to take part in this opportunity.

This initiative aims to connect emerging Filipina professionals to the global water community, opening doors to learning, collaboration, and growth.

If youโ€™ve been meaning to apply, or know someone who should, we gently encourage you to take this step.

Across the water sector, women contribute in countless ways: designing treatment systems, conducting research, managing utilities, working with communities, and advocating for equitable access to water and sanitation. Yet many early-career professionals still face challenges accessing networks, mentorship, and opportunities that can help them grow.

Today, the Philippine Young Water Professionals (PYWP) is proud to launch an initiative that seeks to support the next generation of women in water.

One could say 2026 is a special year, as the month of March celebrates women through both International Womenโ€™s Day and World Water Day.

These two observances complement each other in powerful ways. The International Womenโ€™s Day theme, ๐‘น๐’Š๐’ˆ๐’‰๐’•๐’”. ๐‘ฎ๐’Š๐’“๐’๐’”, calls for dismantling the barriers that prevent women and girls from reaching their full potential. Meanwhile, World Water Day highlights a very tangible pathway toward equality: ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ.

Access to safe, reliable water is not only a matter of infrastructure. It is a foundation for dignity, opportunity, and empowerment for women and girls around the world.

At PYWP, we believe that advancing gender equality in the water sector also means supporting the women who work within it. Tomorrow, we are proud to launch an initiative that reflects this commitment.

Hello Everyone. It's me Aldrin Magpantay.

This post is basically me sharing how a few coffee chats turned into something I never expectedโ€”rebuilding PYWP, hosting a quiz game, and even stepping onto an international stage. Along the way, I learned a lot about trust, teamwork, and that caring for water isnโ€™t just a jobโ€”itโ€™s something all of us do, in our own small ways. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒ

11/12/2025

Hello everyone. Itโ€™s Aldrin Magpantay again.

Because water is a shared responsibility.

Hi everyone, itโ€™s Aldrin Magpantay again! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Welcome to Day 3 of our PYWP feature.

Sewers are cool. ๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’ง
Not just pipes underground โ€” they keep our cities safe, rivers cleaner, and communities healthier.

Swipe through to see the hidden world beneath our streets, where every manhole, pipe, and connection has a story.

Hey everyone! It's me, Aldrin Magpantay. Welcome to the 2nd day of our PYWP feature. ๐Ÿ’ง

After sharing how I found my passion in wastewater, letโ€™s go a level deeper โ€” into the work that keeps our cities flowing safely. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿ™๏ธโœจ

The sewer network is a hidden system of pipes, manholes, and pump stations that carries wastewater from our homes and streets safely to treatment plants. It works quietly beneath our feet โ€” and most people only notice it when something goes wrong.

Sewer network management isnโ€™t glamorous, yet itโ€™s a complex system where every pipe, manhole, and household connection tell its own story. ๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฆ

In highly urbanized cities like Manila and Quezon City, every connection is a puzzle.

Before a single household can be linked to the sewer system, our team must navigate narrow alleys, houses along estero easements, buried lines, existing water and drainage systems, and utilities like electricity and telecom wires.

Some areas are even physically impossible to connect โ€” unless we design creative engineering solutions on the spot. ๐Ÿง

Every day, we:
๐Ÿ’ชInspect households and communities to assess if they can be safely connected
๐Ÿ’ชNavigate tight, crowded spaces to find hidden manholes and buried lines
๐Ÿ’ชMaintain ageing sewer pipes through declogging, desilting, and flushing
๐Ÿ’ชInvestigate problems using tools like CCTV crawlers
๐Ÿ’ชMap, track, and evaluate thousands of assets to plan repairs and expansions

Itโ€™s not glamorous work. Itโ€™s not always visible. But this is the backbone of safe wastewater management โ€” the invisible system that keeps cities healthy, prevents overflows, protects creeks, and supports wastewater treatment plants.

Today, Iโ€™m sharing the technical side of what we do โ€” the things the public rarely sees, but every community depends on. ๐Ÿฉต

From narrow alleys and tight spaces to hidden infrastructure and problem-solving underground, this is the work that keeps cities safe, flowing, and livable.
