It was before the Second World War that the idea of introducing Lionism in the Philippines was first conceived by the "old timer" Col. The idea was well taken by his friend and mentor Atwood La
wrence, but it was only acted upon during the 1948 Lions Clubs International Convention in New York City, USA when the International Officers decided to organize Lions Clubs in the Philippines. He was introduced to Federico Calero, a realtor, who became the moving spirit in aiding Lawrence in his work. Calero later became the first Provisional District Governor of Lion District 301 Philippines. Lionism was formally introduced in the Philippines when the 1st club, the Manila (Host), was organized in March 23, 1949 with Francisco Ortigas, Jr. as its Charter President with 23 members and was sponsored by Hawaii Lions Club. Soon after, the spirit of Lionism started to spread. Within weeks after organizing the first club, a second club Rizal (Pasay) City Lions Club was organized on April 16, 1949 with Dr. Juan Salcedo as its Charter President. The 3rd club, Quezon City Capitol Lions Club was organized on May 27, 1949 and Hon. On June 19, 1949 the 3 clubs held their Joint Charter Night at the Manila Hotel. The Multiple District 301-Philippines is the umbrella organization of Lions Clubs International in the Philippines, Multiple District 301 Philippines is subdivided into nine (9) sub-districts namely:
District 301-A2 (Southern Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog except Rizal, Bicol Region and the islands of MIMAROPA)
District 301-A3 (City of Manila)
District 301-A4 (City of Manila)
District 301-B1 (Western Visayas except Negros Oriental)
District 301-B2 (Eastern and Central Visayas as well as Negros Oriental)
District 301-C (Northern Luzon)
District 301-D1 (Northern Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Rizal Province)
District 301-D2 (Northern Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Rizal Province)
District 301-E (Whole of Mindanao)
