๐Ÿ’› Happy International Day of Friendship - July 30, 2026

Today, we are invited to celebrate one of the most quietly powerful forces in human life: friendship.

When the UN General Assembly designated July 30 as the International Day of Friendship in 2011, it was making a statement: that friendship between peoples, cultures, countries, and individuals can inspire peace, heal divisions, and build the kind of mutual understanding the world desperately needs.

The resolution placed youth at the heart of it, calling on young people as future leaders, to engage in community activities that cross cultural lines and promote international solidarity.

At SDSN Youth Philippines, we see that vision come alive every time our network comes together.

Every young leader who shows up for a community that isn't their own. Every collaboration that crosses regional, cultural, or ideological lines. Every partnership built on the shared conviction that a better Philippines, and in turn, a better world is worth working toward together.

Friendship, in that sense, is not just personal. It is political. It is the foundation on which sustainable development, peacebuilding, and genuine inclusion are built.

On this International Day of Friendship, we want to say thank you to every partner, ally, collaborator, and friend who has walked alongside us in this work. You are the reason it's possible.

Based on the combined scores of our esteemed judges and the people's vote, Gerald's outstanding infographic and brochure stood out for its practical, user-centered approach to disaster preparedness. Presented as a simple decision map, the design helps Filipino families identify the right time to evacuate before, during, and after floods and typhoons, transforming critical safety information into an easy-to-follow guide that supports timely and informed decision-making.

By simplifying complex emergency procedures into clear, step-by-step actions, the infographic and the brochure demonstrates how thoughtful visual communication can empower communities, strengthen disaster preparedness, and ultimately help save lives. It is a powerful reminder that accessible information is one of the most important tools in building a culture of resilience.

๐ŸŒ Filipino youth โ€” set your alarms for early morning tomorrow!

The UN Townhall: Meet the Secretary-General Candidates is happening LIVE on UN Web TV, and it's one of the most important events in global governance this year.

๐Ÿ“… July 24, 2026

All six candidates vying to become the 10th Secretary-General of the United Nations will appear together, presenting their vision and responding to questions in real time, in front of the world.

Why does this matter to us?

Because the next UN Secretary-General will set the global agenda on climate change, disaster response, the SDGs, and international peace and security โ€” all issues that directly affect the Philippines every single year. With our country holding the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026, the stakes are even higher.

This is global governance happening in real time. And as young Filipinos, we have every reason to be watching.

๐Ÿ“Œ Save this post. Share it tonight so your friends wake up to it.
๐Ÿ“บ Tune in live tomorrow at 5 AM PST on UN Web TV.

See you there. ๐ŸŒ

Presenting Entry 26: "From Risk to Resilience: How Preparedness Saves Lives,"

Concept Note: My infographic series and brochure, titled "From Risk to Resilience: How Preparedness Saves Lives," were inspired by the belief that disasters do not have to become tragedies when people are informed, prepared, and united. Instead of focusing only on the effects of disasters, my designs emphasize prevention, preparedness, and resilience. The BayaniJuan concept represents every Filipino's role in protecting themselves, their families, and their communities.

The target audience includes students, youth, families, educators, and community members across the Philippines. The designs use clear visuals, organized layouts, concise information, and color-coded sections to make disaster preparedness easy to understand, engaging, and memorable for people of all ages.

The infographic series introduces disaster risks, hazards, the preparedness cycle, and the importance of resilience. Meanwhile, the brochure serves as a practical guide by providing essential actions before, during, and after disasters, emergency preparedness tips, and important hotline information. Together, they educate, inform, and encourage people to take proactive steps before emergencies occur.

Through these designs, I aim to promote a culture of preparedness and shared responsibility. My goal is not only to raise awareness but also to inspire action, showing that every prepared individual contributes to stronger families, more resilient communities, and a safer Philippines. By combining education with engaging visual communication, my submission encourages every Filipino to become a BayaniJuanโ€”ready before the storm and resilient beyond it.

Presenting Entry 30:

Concept Note: My entry is inspired by the need to be ready for disasters and emergencies. In the Philippines, we often experience typhoons, floods, earthquakes, and other hazards. This inspired me to create a design that reminds people to prepare and stay safe.

My target audience is students, families, and community members. I used simple words and clear information so that everyone can easily understand the message.

My entry promotes disaster preparedness by teaching people what to do before, during, and after a disaster. It includes preparedness tips, emergency supplies, warning signs, safe places, and emergency hotline numbers. These can help people make good decisions and stay safe during emergencies.

Through this design, I hope to raise awareness and encourage people to prepare ahead of time. Being prepared can save lives, reduce risks, and help communities recover faster after a disaster. My message is simple: Be prepared, stay safe, and help others during emergencies.

Presenting Entry 29:

Concept Note: Inspired by the phone notifications that constantly flash across our screens, my infographics address how our heavy reliance on technology has desensitized us to the true impact of a crisis. My design targets everyday smartphone users, specifically anyone who has received an NDRRMC emergency alert (mostly all Filipinos), by transforming these familiar text alerts into a more striking visual experience, as if the crisis itself has crashed onto the screen. By closing the gap between seeing a notification and understanding its real-world consequences, the design promotes disaster preparedness by turning a lack of preparation into an urgent wake-up call. It reminds viewers that while these digital alerts might reach us (which also often arrives late), we cannot afford to delay what we can do now to prepare and to take the proactive, offline actions necessary for our safety.
