๐ŸŸ๐ŸŒŠ World Tuna Day (May 2)

Did you know that General Santos City (or GenSan) is known as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines? Supplying high-quality tuna to both local and global markets, they also celebrate the annual Tuna Festival, happening every first week of September.

Tuna supports livelihoods, drives local economies, and connects coastal communities to global trade. But with this comes responsibility. Sustainable fishing practices are essential to protect tuna populations and ensure food security for future generations.

โœจ Today, we celebrate the people behind the industry- from fisherfolk to processors while calling for stronger efforts in marine conservation and sustainable fisheries.

๐Ÿ’ผ As youth, letโ€™s stand for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity for every worker. The future of our workforce depends on how we value labor today. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

โš™๏ธ๐Ÿฆบ World Day for Safety and Health at Work

To every young Filipino working, your safety matters.

Whether youโ€™re a student worker, intern, freelancer, or starting your first job, you deserve a workplace that protects your health, respects your rights, and values your well-being. From safe working conditions to mental health support, these should be essentials.

As more youth step into the workforce, itโ€™s important to stay informed, speak up, and support one another in building safer and more inclusive work environments. A better future of work starts with how we care for workers today.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ Lapu-Lapu Day

April 27 marks the historic victory of Lapu-Lapu and his warriors over the forces of Ferdinand Magellan during the Battle of Mactan, a defining moment of early Filipino resistance against foreign rule.

๐Ÿ“œ In recent years, this date has been officially recognized to honor Lapu-Lapuโ€™s legacy of bravery, leadership, and love for country. It is also observed as a special non-working holiday in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

๐Ÿ… Fun fact: The Order of Lapu-Lapu was created to recognize individuals who demonstrate exceptional service and courage in nation-building.

โœจ From history to today, Lapu-Lapuโ€™s story continues to remind us of the strength and resilience of the Filipino spirit.

๐Ÿ’กโš–๏ธ World Intellectual Property Day | April 26

In the Philippine NGO space, ideas are at the heart of impact, from advocacy campaigns to community-driven innovations. These efforts reflect the creativity, time, and lived experiences of the people behind them.

As we celebrate innovation, itโ€™s also a moment to reflect on the importance of proper attribution and responsible use of ideas. Recognizing contributions-big or small helps build trust, strengthen collaboration, and sustain a culture of integrity within our sector.

Intellectual property is about valuing the people and perspectives that shape meaningful change. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

๐Ÿ’ฌ How can we continue fostering a culture of respect and accountability in our work?

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿค International Delegate's Day | April 25

In 1945, Filipino delegates stood among the worldโ€™s leaders at the San Francisco Conference, helping shape the United Nations Charter and laying the foundation for global cooperation. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

As one of the original signatories- the only Southeast Asian nation present at the time- the Philippines played a vital role in ensuring that the voices of smaller nations were heard.

Today, that legacy lives on. Filipino delegates, especially the youth, continue to step into global spaces advocating for climate action, sustainable development, and inclusive solutions for all.

We can end malaria, not someday, but in our lifetime.

For the first time, that's not ambition. It's real. Science is advancing faster than ever. New vaccines, treatments, mosquito control tools and pioneering technologies, including gene drive, are in development. Already, 25 countries are rolling out malaria vaccines to protect 10 million children a year. Next-generation mosquito nets now make up 84% of all new nets distributed.

Nationally-led programmes are driving change.

But malaria doesn't wait. When funding falls, it comes back fast, killing hundreds of thousands more children and reversing hard-won gains.

The possibility has never been greater. And neither has the cost of letting it slip.

This World Malaria Day: Grasp the moment. Protect lives now.
Fund a malaria-free future.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธโœจ Spanish Language Day

Spanish is one of the six official languages of the United Nations, widely used in diplomacy, international cooperation, and global dialogue. Spoken by hundreds of millions of people across multiple continents, it plays a vital role in connecting cultures and sharing ideas worldwide.

In the Philippines, Spanish has a deep historical and cultural influence. While no longer an official language, its legacy remains in Filipino vocabulary, place names, and legal and cultural systems shaped during over three centuries of Spanish presence. Today, Spanish continues to be studied and appreciated, strengthening cultural ties and global engagement.

From history to modern diplomacy, Spanish remains a powerful language of connection, culture, and collaboration. ๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ“โœจ English Language Day (Apr 23)

English is one of the six official languages of the United Nations, used in global diplomacy, international law, and multilateral cooperation. It serves as a common medium for dialogue bridging cultures, facilitating negotiations, and ensuring that ideas can be shared across borders.

In the Philippines, English plays a vital role as one of the countryโ€™s official languages alongside Filipino. It is widely used in education, government, business, media, and science, making the Philippines one of the largest English-speaking nations in the world. This widespread use enables Filipinos to engage in global conversations, access international opportunities, and contribute to knowledge exchange across different fields.

From classrooms to global platforms, English continues to empower communication, learning, and collaboration, connecting the Philippines to the rest of the world. ๐ŸŒ
