Our Mission :

- To improve the orofacial pain education by providing venues for case discussion, consultation, and journal reviews.

- To encourage immersion of undergraduate students in the field of orofacial pain management.

- To form a speaker’s bureau pertaining to this specialty.

As part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain Program (TOPP), Breaking Bite: A Decade of Integrating Perspectives in Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain, OPAP 15th Annual Conference, will feature clinical case discussions from three TOPP alumni.

Dr. Stephen Bryan Tiongson will present “Management of Orofacial Pain in a Patient Diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression: A Case Report,” highlighting the importance of recognizing psychosocial factors in the assessment and management of persistent orofacial pain.

Dr. Jalene Bumatay will discuss “From Neck to Face: A Case of Masseter Myofascial Pain Associated with Cervical Spondylosis,” demonstrating the value of considering cervical and musculoskeletal contributors when evaluating facial pain.

Dr. Emil Angelo Santos will present “Conservative Management of a TMD Patient Suffering from Headache Attributed to TMD and Closed Locked Jaw: A Case Report,” featuring a patient-centered and conservative approach to a complex TMD presentation.

These case discussions reflect a decade of learning, mentorship, and clinical growth within TOPP, as our alumni translate evidence-based principles into meaningful patient care.

Meet our fourth featured lecturer for Breaking Bite: A Decade of Integrating Perspectives in Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain—Dr. Samuel Grozman, an Orthopedic Spine Specialist.

In his lecture, “Taking a Bite Out of Neck Pain: Cervical Spine Disorders That Mimic TMJ Pain,” Dr. Grozman will explore the clinical overlap between cervical spine disorders and temporomandibular joint pain. The session aims to help clinicians recognize when neck-related conditions may be contributing to a patient’s symptoms and when interdisciplinary referral may be needed.
