Lupang Hinirang was originally composed as an instrumental march and had no lyrics. The words we know today began with a poem written by José Palma, a 23-year-old soldier and writer, whose stirring verses were set to the music of Julián Felipe.

Over the years, the anthem underwent several adaptations until 1956, when the Institute of National Language produced the official Filipino lyrics that Filipinos sing across the country today. 🎶🇵🇭
