THE ARTS AND CULTURE INFRASTRUCTURE
Cultural advocates and artists recently held CONVERSATIONS (2) to discuss arts and culture infrastructure in Capiz, and its importance in addressing a vacuum. The conversation took off from the last one held with Valentijn Byvanck, director of Marres, House for Contemporary Culture, in the Netherlands. The group proposed a museum within the hallways of the New Provincial Capitol building.
The museum is envisioned to run along with the government operations as a breathing-living infrastructure reflecting the collective history and aspirations of fishermen, farmers, ordinary workers and indigenous people in the province. The presence of Jose Nery Ong, CEO and President of Pueblo de Panay, Alfonsus Tesoro, former Chief of the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office (PTCAO), and its current Officer-in-Charge, Rophine Visorio, lent the gathering important ears from both the government and the corporate sectors aside from sharing their valuable insights. The fact that dialogues on this topic took place, and is worth archiving for future reference, signals a glimmer of hope that a goal of this nature—though still miles and miles away—now exists in the complex galaxy of local politics.
