๐‘๐ž๐š๐ ๐–๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐”๐ฌ as the IBBY-Philippines, in partnership with UNESCO-Philippine National Commission, SM Cares, Book Nook, and Duyan Books hosts another back-to-back storytelling activity on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

In celebration of National Heritage Month this May, join us at the Book Nook, SM North EDSA Level 3, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM together with our featured author-storytellers: Trist'n Buenaflor and Bimbo Papasin, who will read to the kids of Barangay Bungad, Quezon City.

Young learners from Barangay 666 in Ermita, Manila celebrated Heritage Month through NLPโ€™s Library Hours visit yesterday, May 7, 2026. The celebration was filled with traditional Filipino games, puzzle-solving activities, and storybook giveaways that encouraged them to appreciate and take pride in their cultural heritage.

Library Hours is an initiative of the National Library of the Philippines, in partnership with the International Board on Books for Young Peopleโ€“Philippines and Vibal Foundation, Inc., that promotes early literacy, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning among Filipino children. Yesterday's event became even more meaningful through the support of Vibal Groupโ€™s Sales Team, who shared their time and generously distributed grocery bags to the community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a vibrant celebration of World Book Day at the Book Nook, SM North EDSA !

We were treated to an exciting afternoon of stories and performances by Eugene Evasco for Chikiting Books, Miggy Moreno for Paperkat, and special guest Gloc-9, along with other wonderful guests.

This memorable event was made possible by SM Book Nook, SM Cares, IBBY-Philippines, NCCA, and UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines.

Our heartfelt thanks as well to Vibal Groupโ€™s Chikiting Books (represented by Julius Corotan, VP for Corporate Communications), Tahanan Books, and Paperkat Books for generously sharing their titles for the dayโ€™s storytelling sessions and reading activities.

We wrapped up a wonderful day of reading at the SM Book Nook!

In celebration of National Literature Month, Neil Omar Gamos read his book โ€œAng Pangarap ni Kuya,โ€ while Gilbert Ortega delighted the audience with his โ€œUd the Little Caterpillarโ€.

Kids from Barangay Balingasa Quezon City joined the fun through storytelling and an art workshopโ€”filling the space with imagination, creativity, and big smiles.

LINKS Philippinesโ€™ Hooked on Books Program has just been named the recipient of the IBBYโ€“Asahi Reading Promotion Award, earning global recognition for its lasting contributions to childrenโ€™s reading.

The program stood out among entries from eight other countries, securing a place among this yearโ€™s distinguished awardees.

The winners are being officially announced today, April 13, 2026, during the IBBY Annual Press Conference at the Bologna Childrenโ€™s Book Fair.

The IBBYโ€“Asahi Reading Promotion Award, sponsored by The Asahi Shimbun, honors institutions and initiatives that create meaningful and lasting impact on childrenโ€™s reading. Meanwhile, the IBBYโ€“iRead Outstanding Reading Promoter Award, established with the Shenzhen iRead Foundation, recognizes individuals who dedicate their lives to advancing reading for children worldwide. LINKS Philippines' founding President and CEO Maria Consuleo Doble was also nominated under this category.

We are thrilled to reveal that LINKS Philippines โ€œHooked on Booksโ€ Program, nominated by IBBY Philippines, is the recipient of the 2026 IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award! โค๏ธ

Announced today at the IBBY Annual Press Conference in Bologna, this award recognizes LINKS for its transformative, community-driven model that integrates literacy with creativity, civic engagement, and financial literacy. Since 2017, the program has: Established 25 libraries reaching over 21,600 children, trained more than 1,000 educators and volunteers, and built a sustainable, low-cost framework embedded in public policy, serving entire communities with culturally relevant Filipino literature.

The project will receive US$ 10,000 (generously sponsored by the Asahi Shimbun) and a diploma, to be presented at the 40th IBBY World Congress in Ottawa this August.
