Directors' Guild of the Philippines, Inc. - DGPI

Directors' Guild of the Philippines, Inc. - DGPI The Premier Organization for Film Directors of Philippine Cinema. (by Admin M.S.)

Comprised of Filipino directors who have achieved artistic and/or commercial success in feature length filmmaking, DGPI seeks to foster camaraderie within its membership, to exercise leadership within its local industry and to seek progress in the development of Philippine cinema. Beyond that, the guild is a protector of the freedom of expression and involves itself in several social and cultural

advocacies. After being dormant for a number of years, DGPI has reawakened and now seeks to return to its place of authority to continue the work started by its founders and pave the way for future members.

DGPI STATEMENT

The Directors Guild of the Philippines deplores the misogynistic remarks made by a congressman during a House committee hearing with regards to a female member of the film community. To do this at the start of Women’s Month displays an absolute lack of sensitivity and serves as a disappointingly poor model for our fellow citizens.

Making vulgar remarks under the guise of imagined action – even if uttered in jest – are absolutely unacceptable. Statements of imagined desire by a person in a position of power normalizes misogyny. The DGPI recognizes the dangers of demeaning language and will not tolerate such.

As an organization of creatives that counts many formidable women amongst its ranks, this behavior is a reminder that we need to uphold and protect the dignity of women and help shape cultural discourse to do so.

We hold all our public officials accountable for their conduct during their terms of office and demand that the dignity of all people be defended. The blatant sexism on display should not be tolerated at any level of government.

Here's the video recap of the DGPI MASTERCLASS with Producer Nicholas Weinstock! Lots of learnings from the man whose series have garnered 53 Emmy nominations (including 27 from "Severance") and whose filmography includes blockbuster hits like "Bridesmaids".

With projects being made all over the world (from Hollywood to Australia, to Kenya and Nigeria) Weinstock has been able to pivot his experience to make films everywhere at different scales. The important lesson - it's possible to make these films work with great return and films over the decades actually prove this.

It's not easy, but if you're clever, there's ways through!

So catch a glimpse of what transpired and let's all keep moving forward on making those cinematic dreams a reality.

This event is a partnership between the DGPI, the Film Academy of the Philippines, and BenildeFilm, with additional support from RSVP Studios.
