NAVOTAS CITY, July 5 to August 29, 2026 — Japanese students from Dear Me spent their weekends visiting and spending time with children in Navotas City as part of an exchange and community interaction activity organized with ERDA Foundation.

Held every Saturday and Sunday from July 5 to August 29, the activity brought together around 10 to 30 Japanese and Filipino students who participated in different games and activities with the children.

The Japanese students had the opportunity to play games, talk with the children, and learn more about their experiences and community. Through these simple interactions, the students were able to build friendships and share meaningful moments with the children.

After spending time with the children, the Dear Me students also visited the community to gain a better understanding of the children’s daily environment. They were accompanied by Ms. Rosalie Laurente, Social Development Worker (SDW) of ERDA Foundation, who assisted and accompanied the students throughout their community visits.

The time shared by the Dear Me students gave the children an opportunity to make new friends, enjoy fun activities, and learn about another culture. ERDA Foundation is grateful to Dear Me and all the participating students for sharing their time and energy with the children and for making each weekend visit a meaningful experience.

MANILA, August 26, 2026 — Thirty third-year Sociology students from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) completed a two weeks community deployment with ERDA Foundation from July 13 to 26, 2026.

The students were assigned to different ERDA areas, including SaBaNa, Baseco, Caloocan, Navotas, Muntinlupa, and Quezon City. As part of their deployment, they visited the communities to learn more about ERDA’s programs and the communities it serves.

During their deployment, the students participated in and observed various community activities, including PO, BCA, and Youth Meetings, CoMSCA meetings, community clean-up drives, the distribution of Star Nutri-Meal canned goods, and activities for children.

They also assisted the Programs Section with administrative tasks, giving them an opportunity to experience both fieldwork and office-based responsibilities.

Meanwhile, on August 26, 2026, ERDA Foundation representatives Ms. Judy Segismundo, Deputy Director for Administration, and Ms. Norie Lagunday, HR Assistant, attended the PUP College of Social Sciences and Development’s Host Training Establishment Appreciation Day 2026 at Claro M. Recto Hall, PUP. The event carried the theme, “Strengthening Partnerships, Shaping Future Professionals.”

ERDA Foundation is grateful to PUP and its Sociology students for their time, effort, and participation in the communities. The partnership continues to provide students with valuable experiences while supporting ERDA’s work with children, families, and communities.

QUEZON CITY, August 24 - 26, 2026 — ERDA Foundation trained parent leaders and staff to become facilitators for future capacity-building activities, focusing on children’s rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The three-day Child Rights Advocates and Facilitators’ Training (CRAFT) – Training of Trainers (TOT) brought together 1 youth, 15 parent leaders from eight ERDA areas and 11 ERDA staff members who will help facilitate sessions for children, parents, and other community members.

The training introduced participants to important topics on human rights, children’s rights, and the UNCRC. Participants learned about the four broad categories of children’s rights and discussed the importance of meaningful child participation and advocacy.

Aside from learning about child rights, the participants also developed practical facilitation skills. The sessions included team-building activities, communication exercises, interactive games, and activities designed to help participants become more confident in leading discussions and engaging with children.

The advanced training further focused on engaging children from different backgrounds, creating an inclusive environment, managing emotions, responding to difficult situations, and giving constructive feedback. Participants also practiced designing child-friendly activities through group brainstorming and simulations.

The training was facilitated by Kattleya Marie Reine S. Yatco, Planning Officer II of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), who served as the resource person throughout the training.

On the last day, participants took part in group simulations where they applied the facilitation skills they learned during the training. They also prepared action plans for future activities and received feedback on their performance.

Through the training, the parent leaders and ERDA staff are expected to take an active role in facilitating future capacity-building sessions, especially those that promote children’s rights and awareness of the UNCRC.

The same training will also be conducted for a group of children and youth. This aims to develop Child Rights trainers and advocates not only among adults but also among children and youth, giving them an active role in promoting and advocating for their rights.

As part of the next steps, UNCRC advocacy sessions will be conducted in all ERDA areas in Metro Manila, allowing children, youth, parents, and community members to learn more about children’s rights and the importance of child participation.

The training aims to strengthen the capacity of ERDA’s community leaders and staff so they can help children better understand their rights and encourage them to participate in activities that affect their lives.

QUEZON CITY, August 24, 2026 — ERDA Foundation joined more than 60 civil society organizations and education partners during the Civil Society Roundtable on Fixing the Foundations of Philippine Education held at Richmonde Hotel Eastwood in Quezon City.

EDCOM 2 - The Second Congressional Commission on Education, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI), and Habi Education Lab organized the roundtable. The gathering provided an opportunity for organizations working in education to share their experiences, current projects, and ideas for addressing key challenges in Philippine education.

The discussions focused on eight important areas: nutrition and early childhood health during the First 1,000 Days, access to quality early childhood care and development, every child reading by Grade 3, Senior High School TechPro and work immersion, mother tongue children's books and inclusive learning, bullying prevention and safe spaces for young people, teacher and school leader development and support, and local government engagement and education leadership.

Participants were also encouraged to share their current or recent projects related to these areas. The goal was to identify opportunities for organizations to work together and support efforts aligned with the recommendations of EDCOM II and the targets of the National Education Plan.

Following the roundtable, the organizers also announced plans to create an Education CSO Directory to help strengthen coordination and partnerships among civil society organizations working in education.

QUEZON CITY, August 17, 2026 — Mr. Amir Hamdane, Development Cooperation Officer of the Cooperation and Cultural Affairs Department of the French Embassy, visited the ERDA Foundation to meet the French Scout volunteers currently serving with the organization.

During the visit, Hamdane had the opportunity to check on the volunteers and learn more about their experiences while volunteering with ERDA. He also talked with the Scouts about their activities and how they have been supporting the children and communities served by the Foundation.

A meeting was also held with ERDA staff, including the Deputy Directors, program staff, the French Embassy representative, and the French Scout volunteers. During the meeting, Ms. Edlyn, Deputy Director for Partnerships, presented the other French Scout volunteers, individual French volunteers, and a German volunteer who have also been participating in ERDA's activities.

ERDA program staff also shared updates about the volunteers assigned to the different areas they handle. They discussed the volunteers' roles and the activities they have been supporting in their respective communities.

ERDA Foundation expressed its gratitude to Mr. Amir Hamdane for taking the time to visit the Foundation and meet with the volunteers. His visit was a meaningful opportunity to learn more about the volunteers’ experiences and the work they continue to support in ERDA’s communities.

CALOOCAN CITY, July 31 to August 19, 2026 — Children in Bagong Silang took part in a series of tutorial sessions led by Les Pompotes, where learning was combined with fun and interactive activities.

The sessions introduced the children to French culture and included discussions on proper waste segregation and the importance of friendship. They also participated in role-playing, educational games, and other activities that encouraged teamwork and active participation.

The sessions also featured a Play Day with mini-Olympics, giving the children an opportunity to enjoy games, work together, and have fun with their fellow participants.

ERDA Foundation is grateful to the French volunteers from Les Pompotes for sharing their time, knowledge, and culture with the children. Their presence helped make the learning sessions more enjoyable and meaningful for the participants.

ERDA Foundation mourns the passing of Madame Masako Sumiya, founder of Pag-Asa Group, Japan, whose 37 years of dedicated service helped thousands of Filipino children pursue and complete their education.

Madame Sumiya began her partnership with ERDA after sincerely responding to the invitation of Fr. Pierre Tritz, SJ, founder of ERDA Foundation, to help children who had dropped out of school return to their studies. Through Pag-Asa Group, Japan, she became a steadfast supporter of Filipino children and their families.

One of her significant contributions was encouraging Pag-Asa to establish endowment funds that supported students through elementary, secondary, and even tertiary education. Her commitment to providing long-term educational assistance also inspired other supporters to establish similar forms of support for ERDA beneficiaries.

Madame Sumiya also initiated Pag-Asa’s annual monitoring visits, giving its members the opportunity to personally meet students and hear about their experiences, achievements, challenges, and struggles. These visits strengthened the connection between the students and their supporters and allowed Pag-Asa to better understand the realities faced by the young people they were helping.

Her support went beyond providing financial assistance. Madame Sumiya and Pag-Asa continued to support students as they faced challenges and difficulties, as long as they remained committed to their studies and completing their degrees.

Through this continued support for education, many ERDA beneficiaries have become professionals and continue to contribute to their families and communities. Among them are engineers John Paul Claudio, Flor Nepomuceno, Arvin Mendoza, and Wilvin Valois; human resource managers Jonamae Suitos, Joshua de Leon, Justine Kaye Mia, and Naomi Geronimo; psychometricians McFrederick Dalida and Marisol Navida; and teachers Virginia Flores and Ronel Arnoldo.

Beyond their professional accomplishments, these ERDA alumni have become responsible individuals who continue to lead meaningful lives and support their families. Their journeys reflect the lasting impact of the opportunities made possible through the generosity and commitment of Madame Sumiya and Pag-Asa Group, Japan.

ERDA Foundation extends its deepest condolences to the family of Madame Masako Sumiya and to the officers and members of Pag-Asa Group, Japan. Her compassion, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of education will remain an enduring part of ERDA’s history and the lives of the many children she helped.

CALOOCAN CITY, Hulyo 26, 2026 – Isinagawa ng Samahan ng mga Nagkakaisang Magulang Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan (SaMaKa) ang General Assembly at Learning Session on Child Protection sa Rene Cayetano Elementary School, na dinaluhan ng 240 magulang mula sa komunidad.

Layunin ng pagtitipon na mabigyan ang mga magulang ng pagkakataong magkaisa, talakayin ang mahahalagang usapin, at higit na maunawaan ang kanilang papel sa pagprotekta sa mga bata laban sa pang-aabuso at iba pang uri ng panganib.

Bilang bahagi ng learning session, nagsilbing tagapagsalita si Ms. Kairen Jadine Pasos, isang law student mula sa San Beda University. Tinalakay niya ang mga legal na hakbang at referral system para sa mga kasong may kinalaman sa child abuse.

Ipinaliwanag ni Pasos ang mga wastong hakbang na maaaring gawin ng mga magulang at miyembro ng komunidad kapag nakaranas, nakasaksi, o nakatanggap ng impormasyon tungkol sa posibleng kaso ng pang-aabuso sa bata. Binigyang-diin din niya ang kahalagahan ng pagsusumbong sa mga tamang awtoridad at pagsunod sa wastong proseso upang matiyak na makatatanggap ang mga bata ng kinakailangang proteksyon at tulong.

Kasama rin sa talakayan at pagbibigay-kaalaman si Ms. Jomalyn Bagio, ERDA Program Officer, na tumulong sa paggabay sa mga magulang at pagsuporta sa talakayan tungkol sa child protection.
Nakatulong ang kanyang pakikilahok upang higit na maunawaan ng mga magulang ang kanilang responsibilidad sa pagpapanatili ng kaligtasan ng mga bata at sa wastong pagtugon sa mga usaping may kinalaman sa kanilang proteksyon.

Sa pamamagitan ng sesyon, nadagdagan ang kaalaman ng mga magulang tungkol sa mga serbisyong maaaring lapitan at mga referral mechanism na magagamit ng mga bata at pamilya na nangangailangan ng tulong. Hinikayat din sila na magtulungan at maging aktibong katuwang sa paglikha ng ligtas na kapaligiran para sa mga bata.

Nagsilbi rin ang pagtitipon bilang pagkakataon para sa mga magulang na magtulungan at maging mas aktibo sa pagpapanatili ng ligtas na komunidad para sa kanilang mga anak.

MANILA, July 20 to 30, 2026 – French Scout volunteers spent ten days sharing their time and knowledge with children at the ERDA SaBaNa Center, providing enjoyable and educational learning sessions that helped strengthen the children's skills while creating meaningful connections.

Throughout the volunteer program, the French Scouts taught lessons in Mathematics, Arts and Crafts, Geography, and basic scouting. The sessions aimed to make learning fun and interactive, encouraging the children to actively participate and discover new knowledge.

The Mathematics lessons helped improve the children's understanding of basic concepts through engaging exercises and interactive discussions that encouraged active participation. During the Arts and Crafts sessions, the children expressed their creativity by creating simple projects that allowed them to develop their imagination. Geography lessons introduced the learners to different countries, cultures, and places around the world, helping them learn more about the world around them.

Meanwhile, the basic scouting sessions taught practical skills and important values such as teamwork, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and respect for others, helping the children build confidence while working together in various activities.

ERDA Foundation is so thankful to the French Scout volunteers for generously sharing their time, knowledge, and compassion throughout the program. Their dedication and willingness to serve brought valuable learning experiences to the children and inspired them to continue exploring, learning, and growing.
