Different sectors. Shared priorities. One collective commitment to a stronger, more collaborative, and future-ready Philippine tourism industry.

The Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc. (TIBFI) held its Quarterly Board of Trustees Meeting last August 6, 2026, at Grand Westside Manila Bay, bringing together trustees and sector representatives to share developments, programs, emerging concerns, and priorities across the Philippine tourism and hospitality industry.

Presided over by TIBFI Chairman Dr. Mark Irvin C. Celis, the meeting provided an opportunity for each sector to bring its perspective to the table.

While the challenges and opportunities may differ, many priorities remain interconnected—from human capital and industry-academe collaboration to innovation, workforce readiness, sustainability, and stronger partnerships across the tourism value chain.

The gathering also became an especially meaningful occasion as TIBFI honored and congratulated Dr. Ma. Christina G. Aquino on her recent appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Tourism - Philippines . A former President of TIBFI and mentor to many of its trustees and members, Dr. Aquino has been a longstanding advocate for strengthening the connection among government, academe, and industry. Her appointment is a well-deserved recognition of her years of leadership, expertise, and contribution to tourism and hospitality education and industry development.

There is still much work ahead, but every conversation, shared perspective, and partnership brings us closer to shaping a more competitive, inclusive, and future-ready Philippine tourism industry.

Our sincere appreciation to Grand Westside Hotel for graciously hosting and sponsoring the Board Meeting and for supporting TIBFI’s continuing efforts to bring the different sectors of tourism together.

TIBFI Represents Tourism Sector in Philippine National AI Strategy Workshop

July 28, 2026 | Accenture, BGC

The Tourism Industry Board Foundation Inc. (TIBFI) represented the tourism sector at the Private Sector AI Coordinating Taskforce (PACT) Multi-Stakeholder Validation Workshop for the Philippine National AI Strategy (NAIS-PH), contributing industry perspectives on AI adoption, workforce readiness, skills development, and the future of human-centered tourism.

The workshop was convened by the PCORP Private Sector Jobs and Skills Corporation , PSAC Education and Jobs Committee, PSAC Digital Infrastructure Committee, Analytics & Artificial Intelligence Association of the Philippines (AAP), and Accenture, bringing together private-sector stakeholders from various industries to help validate priorities and directions for the country’s evolving AI strategy.

Representing TIBFI was Xialeemar T. Valdeavilla, Trustee and Public Relations Officer (PRO), who participated in the multi-industry discussions and shared perspectives from the tourism sector.

A key development from the discussions was the recognition of Tourism as one of the Philippines’ Top 6 priority sectors for AI transformation, alongside Healthcare and the Creative Economy as emerging growth sectors, complementing Finance, Advanced Manufacturing, and IT-BPM.

For tourism, discussions highlighted the importance of balancing AI adoption with human engagement. As technology continues to transform hotels, airlines, shipping lines, food and beverage, venues, attractions, and events, hospitality, empathy, communication, and authentic human experiences remain at the heart of the sector.

The workshop also discussed how the revised Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF), together with micro-credentials, stackable learning, specialization, and lifelong learning pathways, can help prepare the tourism workforce for the evolving demands of AI.

As AI reshapes industries, the goal is not simply to adopt technology, but to ensure that innovation continues to strengthen the human connections at the heart of tourism.

The future of AI in tourism is not about replacing people—it is about empowering people to deliver even more meaningful human experiences.

TIBFI Participates in TESDA Orientation on Training Regulation External Review and Assessment

28 July 2026
The Tourism Industry Board Foundation, Inc. (TIBFI), represented by Chairman Dr. Mark Irvin C. Celis and Board Member Dr. Lilibeth Aragon, participated in the orientation on the Training Regulation External Review and Assessment Matrix (TRReAM), an initiative supporting the systematic review of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)Training Regulations (TRs) to ensure their continued relevance to current industry requirements and evolving workplace practices.

The orientation presented the framework and methodology for evaluating existing Training Regulations through industry expert consultation and assessment, focusing on key criteria such as suitability, effectiveness, recency, and validity. The process also incorporates surveys, focus group discussions, and internal review to determine whether existing TRs should be maintained, updated, subjected to full review, or considered for deactivation.

For the tourism sector, the Training Regulations identified for review include:
* Food Production (Professional Cookery) NC III
* Food Production (Professional Cookery) NC IV
* Front Office Services NC III
* Front Office Services NC IV
* Tour Packaging (FIT Ad Hoc Domestic) Services NC II

TIBFI's participation reinforces the important role of industry representation in ensuring that skills standards and competency requirements remain responsive to actual workforce needs. By bringing together government, industry experts, and sector stakeholders, the review process helps ensure that technical-vocational education and training remains aligned with changing technologies, business models, service standards, and emerging skills requirements.

The initiative also supports the broader objective of strengthening the country's tourism and hospitality human capital, particularly by ensuring that qualifications remain relevant, industry-driven, and responsive to the future of work.

Through engagements such as the TRReAM review, TIBFI continues to serve as a bridge between industry, government, and education and training institutions, contributing industry perspectives toward developing a more competitive, agile, and future-ready Philippine tourism workforce.
