It was a pleasure visiting the Philippine cinnamon farms and seeing the impact of your conservation efforts firsthand. Thank you, Plantsville Health, for the warm welcome and for showing us the cooling, quiet power of a thriving cinnamon ecosystem. FSSI remains committed to supporting this work.

Today, March 8, the world marks International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme, “Give To Gain,” reminds us that when we invest in women, through opportunities, resources, and support, everyone benefits.

At the Foundation for a Sustainable Society, Inc. (FSSI), we see this truth every day through the work of women-owned and women-led social enterprises across the Philippines. When women are given access to financing, capacity-building, markets, and networks, they do more than grow businesses; they uplift communities, generate dignified livelihoods, and create lasting social impact.

This , FSSI celebrates the resilience, creativity, and leadership of women social entrepreneurs who continue to drive change.

Together, let us give opportunities, give support, and give recognition because when women thrive, we all gain.

As a social enterprise committed to the Triple Bottom Line (3BL), JMJ SOLAR transitioned from a promising startup into a key renewable energy supplier in Agusan del Sur, helping clients reduce electricity costs by as much as 60-80%.

In celebration of FSSI’s 30th Anniversary and the 3BL SE Excellence Awards, FSSI recognized JMJ Solar as the Social Enterprise Gold Excellence Awardee. The Excellence Awards recognized social enterprises that demonstrated outstanding progress in adopting the 3BL strategy.

Beyond providing sustainable energy to households and farms, JMJ Solar championed gender diversity in a male-dominated sector. With women holding critical leadership roles, including Chief Finance Officer Michelle Avila and Lead Engineer Rose Anne Claveria, the company proved that women were essential drivers of the clean energy transition.

Under the leadership of CEO Jaime Avila and CFO Michelle Avila, JMJ Solar also expanded into the emerging e-vehicle sector with solar-powered charging stations.

As the Philippines marks four decades since the world witnessed the power of collective action, FSSI stands with the nation. Our history is rooted in the very democratic space that the 1986 People Power opened, and the continued pursuit for justice, transparent and accountable governance and economic empowerment.

Today, the spirit of 1986 is personified by the farmers, fisherfolk, women and social entrepreneurs who serve as the key actors of a more equitable nation. By securing sustainable livelihoods and practicing fair, inclusive, and responsible practices in their enterprises, they ensure that the promise of freedom is translated into tangible dignity for all Filipino communities.

On December 19, 2025, FSSI conducted a capacity building session with our new social enterprise partner, Tagoc HVC Agriculture Cooperative, based in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

As part of the seed capital support provided by FSSI, the team participated in an on-the-job coaching and the official installation of their new accounting system. This initiative is designed to strengthen the cooperative’s financial management capacity as they grow their virgin coconut oil and coconut soap production. By streamlining their financial processes, Tagoc HVC Agri Coop is better equipped to uphold accountability and ensure their positive impact on the community continues to flourish.

It was great catching up with Plantsville Health in Bacolod City! Our Partnership Unit (PU) spent the day conducting a monitoring visit as part of our capacity-building support to assist the social enterprise, and we’re truly honored to support their mission to revive the Philippine cinnamon industry.

Their work in conservation and sustainable livelihood shows exactly how we can protect our biodiversity while uplifting our communities. We're so glad to be part of your journey toward a greener and healthier Philippines!

WEE Connect's webinar, titled "Legal Frameworks on Gender Equality and Women's Economic Empowerment (WEE) for Social Enterprises," held on February 11, 2026, provided an invaluable platform for discussing the practical application of gender-responsive policies within the sector. A primary highlight of the session was the presentation by Ms. Ednie Luceno-Casiller, Partnerships Manager at the Foundation for a Sustainable Society, Inc. (FSSI), who shared the organization's extensive experience in fostering inclusive workplaces and supply chains.

Ms. Luceno-Casiller detailed how FSSI actively encourages social enterprises to adopt gender equality by applying gender lens investing (GLI) and institutionalizing gender-responsive structures and policies. Their approach emphasizes the necessity of being intentional about gender impact and aligning these initiatives with triple bottom line (3BL) goals. By combining financial services with dedicated technical assistance and establishing robust gender data and measurement systems, FSSI continues to provide a strategic roadmap for supporting an inclusive economic recovery. Furthermore, FSSI serves as a local impact investor for Investing In Women (IW), an initiative of the Australian Government that seeks to support women-owned and -led social enterprises (WSEs) through targeted capital and support.

This WEE Connect Webinar is under the EmpowerHer Project implemented by Oxfam Pilipinas, The Institute for Social Entrepreneurship in Asia (ISEA) and the Poverty Reduction Through Social Entrepreneurship Coalition, with support from the Australian Government’s Investing In Women initiative.

You can still catch up on the valuable insights shared by Ms. Ednie and the rest of our speakers! Watch the recording here: https://www.facebook.com/PRESENTCoalition/videos/1424931305774829
