Referendums have long been a democratic practice that directly confronts pressing issues in our institution. From lobbying against policies requiring Ateneans to wear neckties in the 70s to posing questions on the retention of smockets (smoking pockets) on campus, this platform has played a key role in concretizing and consolidating our official policy stances, further substantiating our lobbying efforts, and ensuring that the voice of Ateneans is faithfully represented. 🗳️

This year, the Sanggunian revitalizes this practice in order to consolidate our official stance as a student body on the impending implementation of the 6% Tuition and Other Fees Increase (TOFI) for A.Y. 2026–2027.

Pursuant to the mandate of genuine student representation, the Sanggunian, through the Office of the Buklod Ambassador, has prepared a briefer to allow students to make an informed decision on the TOFI referendum:

𝟒𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐮𝐤𝐥𝐨𝐝 𝐀𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬’ 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐖𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝

The 42nd Buklod Atenista National Leaders’ Summit concludes with Ateneo de Manila’s successful passage of 6 resolutions inline with our priority areas and addressing urgent student concerns. The days of the summit were spent in meaningful dialogue with fellow student leaders on crucial national and local issues, as well as important lessons and practices gained from our experiences as leaders in our respective institutions. This allowed for insightful reflections on student leadership and collective action, all toward greater relevancy and service to students and our country at large.

With the theme Corentaso, a word for a strong current, student leaders from the Ateneo schools are challenged to confront the ever-changing current of the times: rolling tides of injustice, economic crises, and political unrest, as manifested in the challenges that our respective constituencies face.

The outcomes of the summit reflect the shared aspirations and continuing commitment of the Atenean schools to face these currents head on–that through setting our sails accordingly, we may be able to face these challenges with courage, and to lead with heart, purpose, and groundedness.
