In response to the recent 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Cebu, UPRI YouthMappers held a hybrid Mapathon event throughout the week.

First-timers and old-timers alike came together to learn and teach mapping using the Basic ID Editor in OpenStreetMap — contributing real data to support communities in need.

We started mapping buildings in Cebu to help responders and communities on the ground. 🏢 🏠

As students, this is one way we can lend a helping hand and support relief and recovery efforts for those affected by the recent disaster. 🤝

We’re truly grateful to have hosted a workshop at the very first State of the Map conference in the Philippines — a meaningful milestone for the local mapping community.

Over the past two Saturdays, UPRI YouthMappers, in partnership with UP Vanguard Inc. Diliman and UPLB, conducted a Mapillary Workshop 📸 🗺️

Participants learned how to capture and use street-level imagery through the Mapillary tool — a powerful resource for building data that helps communities prepare, adapt, and respond to disasters. A notable part of the event was the hands-on experience, showing how the simple task of picture-taking on a walk can have a meaningful contribution to disaster planning!

Through workshops, trainings, and collaborations, we’ve grown as a community of student mappers dedicated to learning and making a difference. Along the way, we celebrated achievements that remind us why we map — to share knowledge, support resilience initiatives, and connect with fellow changemakers.
