Healing and Empowerment in Guiuan
GUIUAN, Eastern Samar — The Felipe J. Abrigo Memorial Hospital has long been a vital center of care for the community. On February 15–20, 2026, the hospital became host to the St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation and the Nickel Asia Corporation Foundation collaboration for a surgical mission with a team of 28 volunteers—surgeons, nurses, and support staff—who provided much-needed medical services to the people of Guiuan.
Over the course of the mission, the team performed 67 surgeries across a wide range of specialties, including ENT, pediatrics, endocrinology, hepatobiliary, urology, reconstructive, and general surgery. At the same time, volunteers conducted Basic Life Support for Bystanders Training for 282 participants, equipping locals with basic lifesaving skills and strengthening the community’s resilience.
But the mission was more than just medical care. It was a testament to compassion, solidarity, and empowerment—reminding Guiuan that healing is not only about treatment, but also about hope and shared strength.
Padayon, Guiuan!
