“Brief indeed is our time for loving”

"A son of God fears neither life nor death, because his spiritual life is founded on a sense of divine filiation. So, he says to himself: God is my Father and he is the Author of all good; he is all Goodness. But you and I, do we really act as sons of God?" (The Forge, 987)

You need to think about your life calmly and without scruples, to ask for forgiveness, and make a firm, definite and determined resolution to improve in one point and another, to improve in that particular small detail which you find hard, and in that other one which as a rule you do not carry out a...

On this day, August 24, 1930. Isidoro had a long conversation with Saint Josemaría Escrivá which immediately led him to join Opus Dei.

On August 24, 1930, Isidoro had a long conversation with Saint Josemaría Escrivá, his former high school classmate, who had now been a priest for five years. Saint Josemaría explained to him the message of Opus Dei, founded in 1928. Its purpose was to foster the search for holiness and apostolate through professional work and the fulfillment of one’s ordinary duties. Isidoro saw at once that this ideal corresponded fully to his own aspirations and decided to join Opus Dei.

50 years later on August 24, 1980, Saint Josemaría’s successor, Blessed Alvaro del Portillo was at a get-together at Thornycroft Hall, Macclesfield. “Isidoro already had a desire to dedicate himself to God, and he did not need a lot of time to think it over, since when it is a matter of giving oneself to the Lord, long deliberations aren’t necessary: it is the heart and faith which have to lead.”

On August 24, 1930, Venerable Isidoro Zorzano saw that God was calling him to Opus Dei, thanks to a providential meeting with Saint Josemaría on a street in Madrid.

“You need to think about your life calmly and... ask for forgiveness”

This day in Opus Dei. August 23, 2017. “We need to speak about Christ, not ourselves.”

A summary of the five days Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz spent in northern Italy, with video highlights of the entire pastoral trip
The Father stressed the importance of a coherent Christian life.
“Living out the Gospel in the place where each one should fulfill his or her own duties, always brings with it benefits for society as a whole. Living as Christians in the middle of the world: this is truly a revolution, without any form of violence.” He also stressed the importance of receiving human and Christian formation, whatever each one’s cultural level may be.

The Prelate also pointed out that “a Christian, a person of Opus Dei, should never feel alone, not even in the middle of the Sahara Desert, because if we live united to Christ, we will be united through the communion of saints to everyone, no matter where we are.”

This Day in Opus Dei. August 23, 1932. In DYA*: Jesus' "New Commandment"

On August 23, 1932, Saint Josemaria wrote down in his Intimate Notes that all the centers of Opus Dei should have a plaque with the words of Jesus' "new commandment": "that you love one another as I have loved you." The first place this was done was the DYA Residence in Madrid.

* DYA—an acronym for “Derecho y Arquitectura” (Law and Architecture) —was a student residence and a study academy that opened in Madrid, under the initiative of Josemaría Escrivá, in November 1933.
