Today, we join the world in celebrating Earth Day 2026, anchored on the global theme: “Our Power, Our Planet.”

This year is a powerful reminder that real change doesn’t come from a single moment. It comes from all of us, every day. From the choices we make at home, to the actions we take in our communities, we all hold the power to protect and restore our planet. 

In the Philippines, where climate impacts are deeply felt, our collective action matters even more. Whether it’s reducing waste, supporting sustainable livelihoods, or advocating for climate justice, every step counts.

This Earth Day, we are called to reflect deeply—on our world, our choices, and our shared future.
We honor the late Pope Francis, whose prophetic voice and moral clarity continue to resonate through his encyclical Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home. He once wrote:

“If someone has not learned to stop and admire something beautiful, we should not be surprised if he or she treats everything as an object to be used and abused without scruple... Our efforts in education will be inadequate and ineffectual unless we strive to promote a new way of thinking about human beings, life, society, and our relationship with the natural world.”

With profound foresight, Pope Francis challenged the world to break free from the destructive paradigm of consumerism and embrace an ecological conversion—where reverence for nature becomes a way of life.

Today, as we celebrate Earth Day, may we carry forward his legacy by renewing our commitment to care for creation, protect the vulnerable, and live in harmony with the Earth and one another.

Happy Earth Day to all. Let us be stewards, not just users, of this beautiful home we share.
