IN PHOTOS: Noong nakaraang tatlong Biyernes ng Setyembre, nagsama-sama ang mga mag-aaral ng Harris Memorial College, Inc. upang matuto, magsanay, at maghanda bilang mga Peer Support Facilitator. 🌱💚

Sa unang araw, nagkaroon ng lecture at interactive activities na pinangunahan ng Children’s Rehabilitation Center (CRC) sa tulong ng mga estudyante ng UP Manila Department of Behavioral Sciences, kasama ang National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), upang mapalawak ang kanilang kaalaman tungkol sa 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙩 𝙑𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝘼𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 (𝙑𝘼𝙒𝘾). Tinalakay at isinabuhay ang mga konseptong 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐬, 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩-𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐛𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚 𝐬𝐚 𝐤𝐚𝐩𝐰𝐚, kasabay ng mga gawaing nagbigay-daan sa mga estudyanteng masuri ang kanilang mga emosyon, reaksyon, at mga paraan ng pagtugon sa iba’t ibang sitwasyon 🌱 . Nagkaroon din ng talakayan tungkol sa VAWC, kabilang ang mga kaugnay na 𝐤𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬, bilang paghahanda sa mga susunod na bahagi ng training ⚖️⌛.

Sa ikalawang araw, mas nakatuon ang talakayan sa pagbuo ng isang komprehensibong support at referral systems, pati na rin sa pagkatuto ng mga pangunahing kasanayan sa pagsasagawa ng Psychological First Aid (PFA). Kabilang sa mga paksa ang 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤, 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡, 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧-𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞. Sa pamamagitan ng interactive activities, tulad ng mga Scenario Analysis at PFA Role Playing practice, naisabuhay ng ating mga mag-aaral kung paano epektibong umusisa ng sitwasyon, makinig nang may pag-unawa, at magbigay ng paunang suporta sa kanilang kapwa 🫂💚

Sa ikatlong araw, mas pinalalim ng mga estudyante ang kanilang kaalaman at kasanayan sa 𝐏𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭. 🫂 Tinalakay at isinabuhay ang mga konsepto tulad ng 𝑨𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕, 𝑳𝑨𝑺𝑻 𝑳𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒐𝒅𝒆𝒍, 𝑬𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒚, 𝑬𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒔, at 𝑷𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒐𝒘. Kasabay nito ang mga interactive activities at role plays na nagbigay-daan upang maisagawa ang kanilang mga natutunan. 🎭👂 Nagkaroon din ng pagkakataon ang mga mag-aaral na pagnilayan ang kanilang magiging papel bilang 𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨, at ibahagi ang kanilang mga pangakong 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒈, 𝒖𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒂𝒘𝒂, at 𝒎𝒂𝒈𝒃𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂 𝒔𝒂 𝒌𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒌𝒂𝒑𝒘𝓪 🌱

PROTEKTAHAN ANG MGA BATA NG SMOKEY MOUNTAIN!

Nitong ika-23 ng Agosto 2026, ang Children’s Rehabilitation Center ay lumahok sa Luntiang Lakad “Leaves of Resilience: Mapping Hope and Nature in Upper Smokey Mountain, Tondo, Manila.”

Ang nabanggit na aktibidad ay isang palihang gumagamit ng Psychosocial Art at Nature-based na pamamaraan para sa mga batang nakatira sa Smokey Mountain. Katuwang sa palihang ito ay ang Salinlahi Alliance for Children’s Concerns, Parents’ Alternative on Early Childhood Care and Development, Inc. (PAECCDI), Anakbayan Smokey Mountain, at Panatang Luntian.

Matagumpay na nailunsad ang aktibidad na nakaugat sa sining at kalikasan, bilang suporta sa mga batang nakararanas ng karahasan, pang-aabuso at intimidasyon sa komunidad.

Ang libo-libong residente ng Smokey Mountain ay nahaharap sa banta ng sapilitang pagpapaalis dahil sa itatayong proyektong Waste-to-Energy Incinerator na nagkakahalagang 26 bilyong piso—isang “modernong solusyon” sa tambak na basura at pagbaha, ayon kay Pres. Marcos Jr. Subalit, mariing kinokondena ng mga residente ng Smokey Mountain ang Waste-to-Energy Incinerator Project sa ilalim ng Smokey Mountain Land Restoration Project sapagkat kaakibat nito ay demolisyon ng mga tahanan, panganib sa kalusugan ng mga mamamayan, at matinding pagkasira ng kalikasan dala ng mga nakalalasong emisyon nito.

Ang Waste-to-Energy Incinerator Project ay hindi solusyon sa pagbaha dahil hindi nito nilulutas ang ugat na sanhi ng matinding pagbaha at pagkalunod sa kahirapan, higit lalo ng mga bata.

Panaghoy at Pag-asa: Documenting Truth, Demanding Justice

Children's Rehabilitation Center, together with Salinlahi Alliance for Children's Concerns, facilitated psychosocial workshops for victim-survivors of human rights violations from different areas of the Southern Tagalog region. The participants included farmers and indigenous peoples, including adults and children, who struggle against land grabbing, trumped-up charges, harassment, torture, killings, and militarization.

Children's Rehabilitation Center is one with the struggle of these communities and the children for their right to land, life, and justice. From our solidarity statement: "Walang bata ang dapat lumaki sa takot sa harassment mula sa mga pribadong armadong gwardya o ahente ng estado. Walang batang katutubo ang dapat paalisin sa kanilang lupang ninuno. Walang bata ang dapat harapin ang militarisasyon o masaksihan ang kanilang mga magulang na sinasaktan ng militar. Walang batang dapat nagugutom o mapilitang huminto sa pag-aaral dahil sa harassment ng militar.

"Karapat-dapat ang ating mga bata sa karapatang mabuhay, umunlad, maglaro, at mag-aral nang ligtas sa kanilang lupain. Ang mga bata ay karapat-dapat na lumahok sa mga isyu na nakakaapekto sa kanila."

BALIKAN: Noong Agosto 18-19, bilang ng pag-gunita sa ika-4 na buwan ng malagim na masaker sa Toboso Negros Occidental, isang serye ng mga aktibidad ang naganap sa Negros. Pinangunahan ito ng MANINDIGAN-Negros, Karapatan, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas - KMP, Justice for Negros 19 campaign network at Defend Negros Network.

Tampok ang mga talakayan at workshops hinggil sa pambansang kalagayan, international humanitarian laws, pangmatagalang kapayapaan at lokal na mga isyu na kinakaharap ng mga mamamayan ng Negros.

Dumalo at masiglang lumahok rito ang humigit kumulang 100 na mga magsasaka, manggagawang bukid sa tubuhan, manggagawa, mga kabataang estudyante, maralitang lungsod at mga taong simbahan mula sa iba't ibang bayan ng Negros.
Dumalo at nanguna rin sa mga talakayan at workshops ang mga delegado na mula sa mga pambansang tanggapan ng mga progresibong organisasyon. Kabilang dito ang BAYAN - Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Amihan Women, National Network of Agrarian Reform Advocates Youth, Promotion of Church People's Response, Children's Rehabilitation Center, Unyon ng mga Manggagawa sa Agrikultura, Health Alliance for Human Rights at iba pa.

Nagkaroon din ng candle lighting at maikli, ngunit madamdamin na pagpaparangal sa Negros 19. Dama ang bigat ng lungkot, pagpupugay gayundin ang kapasyahan para sa pagpapatuloy ng laban para hustisya.

Ika-19 nang Agosto, mismong araw ng ika-4 na buwan ng pagpaslang ng 79th IB sa Negros 19, nagkaroon naman ng maikling kilos protesta sa Bacolod Plaza. Ang sigaw ng mga mamamayan ng Negros at ng buong bayan:

𝗞𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗡 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗧𝗙-𝗘𝗟𝗖𝗔𝗖’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) never misses opportunities to inject its outrageous and dangerous narratives into the national discourse, no matter how misplaced it is.

As expected, the NTF-ELCAC seized upon the school shootings in Tacloban City and Zamboanga City, but the first thing it did in its latest statement was to take great pains to say that the incidents were still under investigation and that no conclusions should be drawn as yet. It was a very obvious effort to downplay the fact that these two incidents involved a child and a nephew of law enforcement officers, with the shooters able to take hold of weapons legally issued to their duty-bearer relatives.

Then, in an astounding leap of logic, the NTF-ELCAC rambled about the youth being vulnerable to various pressures and influences that predisposed them to violence, and interjected its case that among the forces that exploit vulnerable youth are the communists and their so-called front organizations.

But no matter how hard the NTF-ELCAC forces its distorted narratives, it will always have to confront the fact that none of the red-tagged youth organizations was involved in the Tacloban and Zamboanga school shootings.

The NTF-ELCAC should also own up to the fact that it has had a role in inuring even grade school children to scenes of violence when, during its red-tagging sprees, it shows them photographs of NPA members killed in encounters, with all the blood and gore. These disgusting practices have the avowed objective of infusing fear among children and youth, instead of helping them understand the social context of armed conflict. They are also instruments of fascization, making impressionable children and youth come to the conclusion that violent acts of State forces are normal and justified against targeted individuals and organizations, which is the very goal of red-tagging.

The NTF-ELCAC took the occasion to push a number of bills ostensibly meant to protect the youth. Being brainchildren of the NTF-ELCAC, these bills must be rejected, lest they be enacted into law and added to the State’s arsenal of weapons that will further curtail academic freedom, critical thought and the education sector’s rights to free expression, to organize and to mobilize to air their grievances. Salinlahi Alliance for Children’s Concerns condemns in the strongest terms the issuance of an arrest warrant by Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 28 against long-time child rights advocate and worker's rights activist Jacq Ruiz. The warrants are in connection with a worker’s rights protest held on May 1, 2026 for alleged violations of Article 153 of the Revised Penal Code.

For decades, Jacq has dedicated herself to advancing the rights of children. As a former staff member of Salinlahi, Children’s Rehabilitation Center, and Parent’s Alternative on Early Childhood Care and Development Inc. (PAECCDI) and the current Board President of PAECCDI, Jacq has tirelessly led campaigns on child human rights violations, early childhood education, and uplifting the voices of children.

The baseless accusations of tumults and disturbances of public order are the government’s attempt to harass, silence, and discredit highly respected leaders in the community who are genuinely asserting the rights of the most vulnerable and oppressed in society. Drop the trumped-up charges against Kilusan ng Manggagawang Kababaihan Spokesperson Jacq Ruiz and Kilusang Mayo Uno Chairperson Jerome Adonis!
