WAND Women Organization, Inc. A broad-based national and multi-sectoral formation of women NGOs and POs. These were exciting times for the entire nation, challenging especially for women.

Herstory of WAND

In the early eighties, Filipino women joined the popular struggle to end two decades of dictatorship under the Marcos regime culminating in the non-violent mass uprising or "EDSA REVOLUTION" of February 1986. In the next few years, Filipinos worked collectively for the restoration of democracy under the leadership of Corazon Aquino, the first Filipino woman President. Women group

s proliferated post-EDSA. Having proven their worth as players in the country's political life, women turned their energies to the task of reconstruction and reconciliation. An increasing number of non-government organizations (NGOs) and peoples' organizations (POs) launched such activities as gender sensitivity training, livelihood projects for women and advocacy programs affirming the need to mainstream gender concerns in development agenda. These organizations also began coalescing to scale-up efforts at organizing and servicing women. The Women's Action Network for Development (WAND) was founded as a coalition of NGOs and POs working on women's issues in January 1990. Its precursor, the "Women's Forum" had convened a year earlier to provide women NGOs and POs with venues for information exchange, support and col- lective action. From a loose coalition of women's groups, WAND successfully evolved into a broad-based national and multi-sectoral formation of women NGOs and POs.

Happy International Women’s Day! Celebrating the strength, courage, and leadership of women today and every day.

Let us continue championing equality, inclusion, and opportunities for all women and girls.

This March, we join the celebration of women everywhere—recognizing their strength, resilience, and leadership in every sphere of life. Women are not only builders of families and communities, but also champions of peace and security. Their voices, perspectives, and actions are essential in creating societies that are inclusive, safe, and equitable.

As we honor their contributions, let us continue to support and amplify women’s roles in shaping a more just and peaceful world. 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵!

Today, we commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. This day serves as a powerful reminder that when ordinary citizens stand together, change is possible.

May the spirit of unity, courage, and active citizenship that defined the 1986 People Power in EDSA continue to inspire us to uphold democracy, human rights, and good governance.
