Statement on the Rights and Welfare of Working Musicians, with Emphasis on Women in the Industry
We firmly condemn the actions of any individuals—whether in government or private institutions—who exploit, marginalize, or undermine the rights and dignity of musicians. Music is a vital force in our culture and society, and those who dedicate their lives to this art deserve to be treated with the utmost respect, fairness, and care.
Particularly, we stand in solidarity with women in the music industry, who too often face discrimination, harassment, and systemic barriers to equal opportunity and recognition. Their voices, talent, and labor must not be ignored, silenced, or exploited.
We call on all sectors—public and private—to uphold and enforce policies that protect the rights, safety, and welfare of all musicians, and to create spaces that are inclusive, empowering, and respectful. There can be no true artistic freedom without justice, equity, and accountability.
Let us all work together to ensure that musicians, especially women, are supported not only in their creative expression but also in their fundamental human rights.
