🌴 BONDOC PENINSULA: COCONUT POVERTY + CLIMATE CRISIS

📌 FACT #1: Quezon is coconut country.
Quezon has 379,137.60 hectares planted to coconut—pinakamalaki sa Pilipinas—at top producer din sa volume with 1,493,066.64 metric tons (2020).

Pero kahit “Cocolandia” ito…

📌 FACT #2: Coconut farming is still poverty farming for many.
Sa survey-based study sa Quezon (3rd District), 69.51% ng coconut farmers ang may ₱50,000 or below annual income—halos survival level na ‘yan para sa buong taon.

📌 FACT #3: Nationally, coconut farming is massive—pero farmers stay vulnerable.
The coconut industry spans 3.62 million hectares, involving an estimated 2.5 million farmers, with 347 million fruit-bearing trees, and 14.7M metric tons production (2018, nut terms).

🌪️ CLIMATE CHANGE = POVERTY TRAP

Kung sa ibang crops, mabilis ang balik…
Sa niyog, hindi.

📌 Research on typhoon impacts shows coconut income loss can be ₱20,649.89 per hectare per year, and replanting can take 7–9 years to return to full production.

Kaya sa Bondoc, kapag tinamaan ng:

✅ malalakas na bagyo
✅ mas mahahabang tagtuyot
✅ pests at sakit sa pananim

…ang epekto hindi lang “damage.”
7–9 taon na kahirapan ang katapat.

🌿 POVERTY → ECOLOGICAL DECLINE → MAS MALALALANG POVERTY

Kapag gipit ang magniniyog, hirap mag-invest sa:

soil restoration

farm diversification (agroforestry)

water retention / erosion control

windbreak belts

organic inputs

Kaya ang nangyayari:

poverty forces ecological decline → ecological decline lowers yields → deeper poverty.

💰 COCO LEVY / CFITF: HINDI ITO AYUDA. IT’S CLIMATE JUSTICE.

May batas na: RA 11524 (Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund / CFITF).

✅ organic + soil restoration
✅ agroforestry (hindi puro monocrop)
✅ climate resilience financing + social protection ng farmers

💬 COMMENT + ENGAGE

Taga-Bondoc ka ba? (Mulanay / Catanauan / Gumaca / San Narciso / Lopez / Calauag, etc.)
I-comment ang bayan at barangay mo at sagutin:

Ano ang #1 problema ng magniniyog sa inyo ngayon?
A) Presyo / traders
B) Bagyo / drought
C) Peste / sakit
D) Walang puhunan / walang dryer / walang support

Dahil ang niyog = pagkain, klima, kabuhayan, at survival ng Pilipinas.

GREEN BUDGET MANUAL: Citizen's Manual for Climate Actions & Fiscal Monitoring

The 2026 National Budget has been signed.
₱6.793 trillion is now law.
But here’s the hard truth:
👉 Green spending is not automatic.
👉 Climate protection is not guaranteed.
👉 People must defend it.

After the FY 2026 budget confirmed how climate-blind spending still dominates, we at KaBalay are moving from critique to capacity-building.

🔜 Launching NOW:
E-GREEN KNOWLEDGE BUNDLE & TRAININGS
A practical how-to learning series for citizens, youth, professionals, LGUs, and advocates who want to monitor budgets, demand climate funds, and push real green fiscal reform.

📘 What’s inside the bundle:

• Climate Budget Monitor tools
• Citizen Audit templates (COA-ready)
• Climate & environmental literacy modules
• Policy advocacy guides
• Case studies from real Philippine budget battles

🌱 2026: WE CHOOSE THE EARTH 🌏
Pamayanang KaBalay | KaBalay Movement

A new year is more than fireworks and fresh calendars — it is a collective decision.

This January 1, 2026, we begin with a Values Reset and a renewed call for Ecological Citizenship.
In a time of climate crisis, rising costs of living, and fragile communities, choosing the Earth means choosing people, future, and responsibility.

✨ In 2026, we choose:
✅ Responsibility over convenience
✅ Community over indifference
✅ Sustainability over short-term profit

From our homes to our barangays, from the youth to our elders, real change starts with how we live every single day.

This year, , the , and invite every Filipino to make one clear commitment:

🌿 Live lightly.
🏛️ Govern wisely.
❤️ Care deeply.

The future is not waiting.
It is asking.

GREEN HEROES OF OUR TIME | Philippines 2025
National Green Heroes Remembrance – KaBalay Tribute

Not all heroes wear capes.
Some wear muddy boots, life vests, ranger uniforms, or simple work clothes.
Some guard our forests at night, defend our seas at dawn, plant mangroves under the heat of the sun, and stand their ground even when it is dangerous to do so.

Today, we honor the Green Heroes of Our Time —
🌱 environmental defenders
🌱 forest rangers and wildlife enforcement officers
🌱 Bantay Gubat and Bantay Dagat volunteers
🌱 fisherfolk, Indigenous elders, women leaders, and youth climate advocates
🌱 ordinary LuzViMindanons doing extraordinary work to protect life, land, and future generations.

The Philippines remains among the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries.
Our forests continue to shrink. Our seas absorb our waste.
And those who defend nature often face threats, harassment, and even death.

Yet they persist.
Because protecting the environment is protecting life itself.

This Green Heroes Day, remembrance must turn into responsibility.
Solidarity must turn into action.
