One of KIYOβs partners in the Philippines, Bidlisiw Foundation Inc. - Philippines, organized a whole-day Life Skills for Mentors workshop last November 14, 2025, bringing together their partner technical-vocational institutions (TVIs) and private companies as participants. KIYO Philippinesβ Programme Coordinator, Ariel Culala, facilitated the workshop alongside the Bidlisiw project team. This workshop was identified as one of the essential capacity-building topics through the APPS (Awareness, Protection, Participation, and Skills Development) lens assessment.
The session centered on: (1) improving mentors' capacity to recognize the significance of mentoring in empowering their mentees' personal growth and promoting their overall well-being; (2) providing mentors within Bidlisiw's network of partners with essential knowledge in lifelong learning skills or self-mastery skills; and (3) aspiring to enhance the potential of private companies and TVIs in creating an enabling environment that fosters youth empowerment.
By exploring themes such as youth empowerment, core mentoring principles, and self-awareness tests and frameworks including whole brain thinking, learning system, and self-mastery abilities, the mentors gained clearer insight into how they can more effectively guide young people as they transition into the workforce.
The session also incorporated structured learning exercises that promoted reflection, collaboration, and adaptability among participants. Several attendees noted that the workshop offered them a valuable moment to slow down and reconnect with their sense of purpose.
As part of the APPS capacity building series of Bidlisiw, this activity further strengthens shared commitment to developing mentors who can support youth in building confidence, preparedness, and optimism for their future.
