𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖?

𝑺𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑨𝒍𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒊 holds the distinction of being the first canonized saint of the Order of Carmelites. Along with St. Angelus, he is honored as Pater Ordinis or "Father of the Order," a title that reflects his profound holiness and lasting influence on Carmelite spirituality. His feast day is celebrated every August 7.

What makes St. Albert truly remarkable is not only the many miracles attributed to him but the extraordinary witness of his life. Born in the thirteenth century after his parents had waited 26 years for a child, he was dedicated to God by his mother even before his birth. Though raised in a wealthy and influential Sicilian family, Albert chose the humble life of a Carmelite friar, embracing poverty and dedicating himself to prayer, preaching, and service.

One of the most remarkable yet lesser-known events associated with St. Albert occurred during the 1301 siege of Messina. As famine gripped the city, his prayers and intervention were credited with enabling ships carrying food to break through the naval blockade, bringing relief to the starving population. This act earned him a reputation not only as a miracle worker but also as a compassionate servant of the people.

Tradition also tells us that St. Albert recited the entire Book of Psalms every day, allowing Sacred Scripture to shape every aspect of his life and ministry. His preaching inspired countless people and was accompanied by extraordinary signs, including healings, the restoration of sight, deliverance from evil spirits, and even the purification of poisoned water.

Perhaps the most striking testimony to his sanctity came at his funeral in 1307. As clergy and faithful debated whether he should receive an ordinary Requiem Mass or be honored as a saint, tradition recounts that angels themselves began singing the Os Justi, the entrance chant for the Mass of a Confessor, affirming his holiness before all who were present.

More than seven centuries later, St. Albert of Trapani remains a shining model of Carmelite life, reminding us that true greatness is found in fidelity to God's Word, humble service, compassionate charity, and unwavering trust in the Lord.

With joy and gratitude, the Philippine Carmelite Province of St. Titus Brandsma invites you to witness the Simple Profession and Solemn Profession of Religious Vows of our confreres to be held at 2p.m. on August 15, Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao, Quezon City.

Making their Simple Profession are: Fray Reuben V. Cerillo, Jr., n.OCarm. of Vinzons, Camarines Norte; Fray Mark Jay V. Halili, n.OCarm. of Matatalaib,Tarlac City, and Fray Jan Harold M. Manguera, n.OCarm., of Capas, Tarlac.

Meanwhile, Fray Alfred S. Perlas, O.Carm. of Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, and Fray Albert R. Magbag, O.Carm., of Magalang, Pampanga, will be making their Solemn Profession of Vows.

The rites will take place during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist to be presided over by the Prior Provincial, Rev. Fr. Roberto Noel B. Rosas, O.Carm., with Rev. Fr. Sheldon R. Tabile, O.Carm., as homilist.
