On November 22, the Ateneo Liturgical Ministry had two events which fell on the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.

From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Auxiliary Formation Session took place. They were introduced to the Mass, what the mass it, and what is expected of them and especially where they begin asking, or better ask themselves "Why do I want to serve willingly?". These members were taught each part of the mass and what their purpose is. Each vessel, item, and movement used during the mass handled with care and understanding for what its use is. Auxiliary Membership is a sacrifice truly, and the formation session showed how much they love the Lord.

After the Formation Session, official ALM Members prepared for their investiture rite. The Investiture rite is a special rite for servers, namely, it presents them to God, showing them they are ready for the service they will give to the people, to the Church, and to God. Service is the main purpose of such an Investiture Rite. To bear witness to Christ's service; to serve and not to be served. This rite is a testament to the willing dedication these altar servers continue to exert in their lives

Keeping with the theme of Christ the King, both Auxiliary and Official Members keep in their hearts and minds service. Amare et Servire, To Love and Serve the Lord is their motto, and one they will repeat in their lives.

THE PHILIPPINE VICE-PROVINCE BEING MADE INTO AN INDEPENDENT PROVINCE

On February 3, 1958, the Philippine Vice-Province was made into an independent Province. Fr. Francis X. Clark, S.J., who had served as Vice Provincial, became the first Provincial. By this time, the Province had 442 members: 239 Filipinos and 197 Americans. The Province maintained residences in Cagayan and Zamboanga. There were seven Ateneos: Cagayan, Davao, Manila, Naga, San Pablo, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

January 5 | Feast of the Epiphany

The Epiphany marks the arrival of visitors, identified in Scripture as the magi, to the place where Jesus was born. Although we know virtually nothing about them, we do know they brought three gifts:

Gold — a symbol of wealth and power, identifies the recipient as a king.
Frankincense — the crystalized resinous sap of a tree used as incense and as an offering, is symbolic of prayer.
Myrrh — another resinous tree sap, was used in healing liniments and as an embalming ointment. Myrrh is an odd gift for a child—so, even at the beginning of Jesus' life on earth, this gift foreshadows his death.

Like the Magi, believers are led by faith to seek God in the most hidden places, knowing that the Lord waits for them there.

Today, we witnessed God’s grace and faithfulness to His people as Rev. Fr. Elias L. Ayuban Jr., CMF, was ordained to the order of Bishops and appointed as the 2nd Bishop of The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cubao.

With joy and gratitude, we warmly welcome Bishop Elias to our diocese, as he begins to lead and shepherd the faithful of Cubao in service, humility and faith. May his journey be filled with God’s blessings as he embodies his episcopal motto, “misericordes sicut Pater” — “to be merciful as the Father.”
