𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: Globe, PLDT, and Smart Unite to Keep Mindanao Connected After the 7.8 Earthquake

In the wake of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that affected parts of Mindanao, the country’s telecommunications providers answered the call of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to support affected communities and help keep critical lines of communication open.

Globe, PLDT, and Smart swiftly mobilized emergency connectivity solutions to assist residents, local governments, and disaster response teams during a time of urgent need.

Globe, in partnership with Starlink, activated satellite-to-mobile connectivity in South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sultan Kudarat, marking the first deployment of direct-to-cell satellite technology for disaster response in the Philippines. The initiative enables affected subscribers to access messaging and data services even in areas where traditional networks have been disrupted.

Meanwhile, PLDT and Smart established free Wi-Fi access, charging stations, and communication support services in General Santos City, while also providing connectivity assistance to local emergency operations and command centers.

The DICT recognizes and thanks Globe, PLDT, and Smart for coming together in the spirit of Digital Bayanihan and helping our kababayans stay connected during this challenging time.

Maging maingat sa mga fake booking scams na gumagamit ng mga pekeng social media pages at websites para lokohin ang ating mga kababayan. Mas nakababahala pa, may mga kaso kung saan maging mga spoofed pages ay nagkakaroon ng verification badge para magmukhang lehitimo.

Huwag basta magtiwala sa murang promos, rush offers, at mga account na humihingi agad ng bayad sa personal accounts o e-wallets. Ugaliing i-check ang official website, official social media pages, at direktang i-verify ang booking bago magpadala ng anumang bayad.

Patuloy ang Digital Pinoys sa pakikipagtulungan sa mga stakeholder upang mag-monitor, tumukoy, at mag-report ng mga pekeng social media accounts at websites upang mas maraming negosyo at mamamayan ang maprotektahan laban sa ganitong modus.
