📣Calling all museums, galleries, cultural institutions, artists, cultural workers, schools, communities, and heritage organizations to join the Museums and Galleries Month Celebration this October!

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 798, s. 1991, the Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) is annually celebrated during the month of October. This year, the MGM celebration banners the theme, “Bridging Divides, Preserving the Present for Tomorrow," MGM 2026 honors a truth too often forgotten: museums and galleries were never meant to be locked behind glass, velvet ropes, or unspoken rules about who belongs. They are meant to be shared, and to connect people and narratives across generations, backgrounds, and the very divides that keep worlds apart.

Let us bridge divides through culture, preserve what matters today, and carry our stories forward for generations to come.

How can museums strengthen the ethical governance of their collections?

CIMAM, the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art, and its Museum Watch Committee, invites museum professionals worldwide to contribute to a new international research initiative exploring ethical principles for building and maintaining museum collections through processes of acquisition, accessioning, safeguarding, and caretaking.
