March 28-29, 2026. Today the Philippines Tri-Sectoral Campaign for the Right to Adequate Public Housing proudly announces its participation in the Global Housing Action Days, a coordinated series of actions from March 23 to March 29, 2026, as part of the Coordinating Committee for GHAD and the International People’s Assemble for Housing (IPAH) calling for housing justice on a livable planet, resisting corporate-driven displacement, advancing the right to housing as a human right and calling for climate justice.
“The global housing crisis is worsening while profits for a few skyrockets. Millions are struggling to find and keep a home. During Housing Action Days, we will mobilize with allies across borders to demand fundamental change,” said Elmer Galario, Secretary General of LUPA-Pilipinas. “Especially in the Philippines, since the government maintains its housing framework of institutionalizing informal settler families and the poor to be clients of a housing market through the 4PH, CMP, people’s plan, in city and off-city relocations, and more. And we maintain that housing is a right and not a privilege --- Ang PABAHAY AY SERBISYONG PUBLIKO, HUWAG GAWING NEGOSYO!” he added.
Statements from leaders of the Philippines Tri-Sectoral Campaign for the Right to Adequate Public Housing during the various actions today included:
Vicente Alban, LUPA-Pilipinas Chairperson shared the specific demands of the Philippines Tri-Sectoral Campaign for the Right to Adequate Public Housing, “What we want is for the passing of a new comprehensive housing law and program which ensures security of tenure for low-income beneficiaries of public housing, that government/public lands and expropriated private lands allotted for public housing should be for such purpose permanently.”
And, “Because there are more renters and sharers, the government should issue a new rent control law and rental subsidy for low-income families. The public housing program should be decentralized to give Local government units enough room to pursue their respective public housing plans and projects. Congress should appropriate enough funds for public housing equivalent to not less than 2% of the annual GDP.”
Primo Amparo, WPL Secretary General, added “The government should provide public rental housing/dormitories for workers and students.”
While Pablo Rosales, Chairperson, PANGISDA-Pilipinas demanded that “the government should guarantee the implementation of Fisherfolk Settlements.”
The Philippines Tri-Sectoral Campaign for the Right to Adequate Public Housing held 36 PROTEST ACTIONS: 7 protest rallies; 8 fora; 1 noise barrage; 1 assembly; and 19 banner drops in raliies in 2 Metro Areas, 4 Bay areas, in 7 provinces,12 cities, 9 towns, and 2 universities across the Philippines, which enjoined thousands of Filipinos affected by the housing crisis in the country in calling for the government to fulfill its obligation of creating and implementing programs and laws for genuine public housing.
A Global Fight for Housing Justice
Last year, there were actions in over 57 cities around the world. In 2026, from March 23–29, we are uniting again to confront the systemic drivers of the housing crisis and the climate. We will march, organise, occupy, strike, protest, and build community-led resistance to policies that prioritise profit over human life.
Across the globe, the housing crisis is fueled by rising rents, speculation, evictions, extraction of land and resources, and repression of activists. Millions face inadequate, unaffordable, or unsafe housing while corporate landlords and financialised property markets grow unchecked.
During Housing Action Days 2026, local and global movements are mobilising against evictions, the repression of activists, the selling off of our cities through touristification and speculation, the looting of our lands, the rising cost of living, their war planes and the destruction of our planet. We push forward a vision of a world centred on a good life for all.
