𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗡𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 | 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟯

On Day 3, we focused on what environmental planners can do next: work more closely with leaders who shape development, sharpen technical standards and scope of practice, as well as the code of professional responsibility, and strengthen evidence-based decisions. PIEP should also develop an organizational culture that put premium to active participation and innovative approaches in planning.

At the closing, the 34th National Convention underscored one truth: the challenges we face are real, but the environmental planning community is steady, capable, and committed to rebuilding stronger and more resilient.

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗡𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 | 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮

Tropical Storm Tino lingered and battered the Visayas area, and many of our colleagues were dealing with difficult conditions at home. That made Day 2 of the NatCon feel even more relevant. Sessions confronted heritage conservation and indigenous knowledge, the role of women in the planning process, and the political hurdles that can slow good environmental planning. The Fellows' Talk focused on nature-based solutions (NbS) and ecological-based adaptation (EbA) as sustainable steps towards genuine community resilience.

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗡𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 | 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭

Despite the threat of Severe Tropical Storm Tino (Kalmaegi), the 34th National Convention and General Membership Meeting pushed through in Dumaguete City. The storm itself was a sharp reminder of the disruptions that we as environmental planners face, putting more urgency to our work.

Day 1 opened with a welcome address from the National President, setting the tone for the the three-day gathering. The succeeding plenary discussions focused on climate resilience, rapid urbanization and metropolitan governance, new regulatory policies, and the need for stronger planning systems. The session highlighted new tools and local innovations already responding to these realities.

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗡𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗡𝗢. 𝟰 | 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗼 (𝗞𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗮𝗲𝗴𝗶) 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Per discussion of the NatCon Executive Committee, considering all information from various forecasts of PAGASA and Japan Meteorological Authority, as well as feedback from our Host Chapter, the following actions will be implemented:

1. The NatCon will proceed as planned. All preparations and logistics are already locked-in. Some delegates are already in Dumaguete City, while some are flying-in tonight and tomorrow morning.

2. Dumaguete City remains to be a viable venue to continue with the NatCon. However, if there is a significant number of delegates who cannot join physically due to the weather disturbance, we will proceed with a hybrid mode: delegates already in Dumaguete City will attend onsite, while delegates unable to attend will go virtual.

3. In a worst-case scenario that Dumaguete City will no longer be viable because of the weather disturbance, the NatCon will go full virtual.

4. The virtual mode will only be opened to delegates who have already registered and paid. We will send the Zoom link to your email addresses once it is set up.

5. In all cases, there will be no more refunds of any fees already paid.

Always stay safe. If you feel that traveling at this point poses a hazard to your safety, please stay at home. Your safety is our primary concern.

2. All attendees to the 2025 NatCon shall be given free access/attendance to PIEP's webinars in the coming months for a cumulative total of 15 CPD points.

3. We will be opening the NatCon to non-ENPs for a special registration rate of Six Thousand Pesos (P6,000.00).

4. After the NatCon, we will prepare all documents that are necessary to apply the NatCon for CPD units under self-directed learning (SDL) for ready download.

5. The 2025 NatCon shall be purely onsite or face-to-face.

We hope that these measures will rekindle the interests of some of our members who were initially discouraged to attend the NatCon because of the lack of CPD points.
