FEEDBACK IS WELCOME, SCREENSHOTS...NOT.
The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines - ABS-CBN Chapter recognizes the importance of helping the public understand the No Contact Apprehension Policy and other policies that will affect their daily lives.
We also acknowledge that news reports may need corrections or clarifications and that there are mechanisms in place for these.
However, we find it unacceptable for the Metro Manila Development Authority to blame a reporter and accuse them of sensationalism when officials fail to communicate the nuances of a policy, especially one that was hastily announced and implemented.
We stand with the reporter in stressing that neither they nor ABS-CBN News sensationalizes news stories.
Even more unacceptable is the publication of screenshots of a private conversation without the other party’s consent, an act that violates confidentiality of communications and has implications on data privacy.
The NUJP ABS-CBN Chapter urges the MMDA and other government agencies, who know that media organizations have proper channels for feedback and recourse, to use them to address concerns instead of resorting to social media.
