PAHAYAG NG PAGKAKAISA NG KONSEHO AT MGA ORGANISASYON NG KOLEHIYO NG EKONOMIYANG PANTAHANAN

Ang konseho ng mga mag-aaral ng Ekonomiyang Pantahanan ng UP Diliman, kasama ang mga organisasyon sa kolehiyo, ay mariing kinokondena at tahasang tinututulan ang mga karahasan, panunupil, at malawakang paglabag sa karapatang pantao na isinagawa sa ilalim ng Batas Militar. Lalo na dahil ang mga epekto nito ay patuloy na nararamdaman ng mga estudyante, bata, at pamilyang Pilipino hanggang sa kasalukuyan.

Ang araw na ito ay nagmamarka sa ika-54 na taon mula nang ideklara ang Batas Militar sa bansa. Sa panahong ito, nasaksihan ang masalimuot na yugto ng kasaysayan ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino, isang panahong hindi kailanman naging ginintuan ang mga kalsada, ang bayan, maging ang bawat sulok ng tahanan. Sa likod ng gintong kasinungalingang ipininta sa kasaysayan ay mga kuwentong puno ng takot, pagkawala, at pagdurusa, mga kuwentong hindi natin kailanman dapat kalimutan. Sa ilalim nito, pinagkaitan ng karapatang magsalita at malayang magpahayag ang mga Pilipino. Ang mga estudyante, g**o, manggagawa, bata, at magulang ay hinarap sa panunupil, pagkakakulong, tortyur, sapilitang pagkawala, at pagpaslang. Kabilang dito ang mga desaparecidos, mga Pilipinong sapilitang pinawala ng berdugong estado at nag-iwan ng mga pamilyang patuloy na naghihintay ng katarungan at kasagutan. Ang pagsususpinde sa writ of habeas corpus at iba pang hakbang ng estado ay higit pang nagbukas ng pinto sa mga paglabag sa karapatan ng mamamayan.

Hindi rin mismong nakaligtas ang ating mga paaralan sa ganitong panunupil. Ang edukasyon ay dapat maging espasyo kung saan malayang nakapagtatanong, nakapagsasaliksik, at nakapagpapahayag ang mga estudyante. Ngunit paano natin mahuhubog ang mga kabataang mapanuri kung sila mismo ay binibigyan ng mga hadlang upang magsalita? Paano natin maihahanda ang mga estudyante para sa lipunan kung ang kanilang kalayaan sa pagkatuto ay nililimitahan ng takot?

Umabot ang masalimuot na diktadura ni Marcos Sr. sa bawat tahanan at pamilya. May mga estudyanteng nawalan ng kaklase, mga paaralang nawalan ng g**o, mga batang nawalan ng magulang, at mga magulang na nawalan ng anak. Sa bawat pagkawala ay may pamilyang naiwan upang magluksa, maghanap ng sagot, at magpatuloy sa gitna ng kawalan ng katarungan

Bilang mga Ekonomistang Pantahanan, alam nating ang tahanan at pamilya ay hindi kailanman hiwalay sa lipunang kanilang ginagalawan. Kapag nangingibabaw ang takot at pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan, hindi lamang ito nananatili sa mga pahina ng kasaysayan. Umaabot ito sa hapag-kainan, sa kabuhayan, sa silid-aralan, sa trabaho, at sa mismong buhay ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino. Kaya bahagi ng ating pananagutan ay ang maunawaan at bigyang aksyon kung paano hinuhubog ng lipunan ang kalagayan ng bawat tahanan at, higit sa lahat, ang kilalanin kung kailan ginagamit ang kapangyarihan sa paraang sumisira sa kapakanan ng mamamayan.

Hindi kailanman ay dapat patahimikin ang kultura. Hindi dapat ikinukulong ang sining. Hindi dapat gawing sandata ang edukasyon upang supilin ang malayang pag-iisip. At higit sa lahat, hindi dapat parusahan ang sinumang gumagamit ng kanilang boses upang kuwestiyunin ang kapangyarihan. Ang kalayaan sa pag-iisip, paglikha, at pagpapahayag ay hindi pribilehiyo ng iilan at sa halip ay karapatan ito ng bawat Pilipino. Anumang pagtatangkang takutin, patahimikin, o burahin ang mga tinig ng paglaban ay dapat nating tutulan.

Siyang pamahalaang dapat sanang nagsisilbi at nagpoprotekta sa mamamayang Pilipino ay hindi dapat maging mismong instrumento ng kanilang panunupil, takot, pagkawala, at pagdurusa. Huwag nating hayaang mawala sa alaala ang mga biktima, ang kanilang mga pamilya, at ang mga komunidad na hanggang ngayon ay pasan ang bigat ng panahong ito. Huwag nating hayaang tabunan ng mga salaysay ng huwad na kaunlaran ang mga katotohanang pilit na ibinabaon sa limot. Ang kasaysayan ay dapat harapin, alalahanin, at ipasa sa susunod na salinlahi. Kailangang marinig ang tinig ng mga biktima, at kailangang manaig ang katotohanan sa alaala ng bayan.

Ang pag-alala ay paninindigan. Sa bawat kuwentong ating pinipiling alalahanin, binibigyan natin ng puwang ang mga buhay na nawala, ang mga pamilyang naiwan, at ang mga tinig na sinubukang patahimikin. Nasa atin ang pananagutang panatilihing buhay ang kanilang mga kuwento at ipasa sa susunod na salinlahi ang mga aral ng kasaysayan. Lalo itong mahalaga ngayon, sapagkat isang Marcos na naman ang nakaupo sa Malacaรฑang. Sa harap ng muling pagharap ng bansa sa isang Marcos sa kapangyarihan, mas lalong mahalagang panghawakan ang mga katotohanang pilit binubura at ang mga kuwentong pilit pinapatahimik. Sapagkat ang kasaysayang binubura ay kasaysayang maaaring maulit, at ang katotohanang ipinagkakait ay katotohanang patuloy nating dapat ipaglaban. Hanggaโ€™t may mga tinig na nagsasalita, may mga kuwentong naaalala, at may mga Pilipinong tumatangging makalimot, hindi natin hahayaang patahimikin ang boses ng sambayanan.

For the Academic Year 2025-2026, ESD - UP Alpha Chapter engaged with various projects and initiatives that aimed to (1) foster a positive and interactive relationship with its members and (2) provide more career-building opportunities to its stakeholders. The ESD International Honor Society - UP Alpha Chapter extends its sincere gratitude to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) for the opportunity to collaborate on Project C.A.L.M. (Comforting Animals through a Literacy Movement). Through this initiative, members participated in reading sessions with sheltered dogs, helping them become more comfortable with human interaction in a calm and supportive environment.

The project provided members with a meaningful opportunity to connect with rescued dogs and offer companionship through their presence, patience, and care. It also highlighted the importance of animal welfare and the positive impact that simple acts of kindness can have on the lives of shelter animals.
