Today, July 12, 2024, the PalSU Legislative Department conducted its 15th Regular Session, inviting two (2) College Representatives from all colleges of Palawan State University -Tiniguiban. The session was presided over by Vice President John Vincent Paballa and was productive, leading to the approval of a proposed bill and resolution.
Moreover, the purpose of this session was for Senator Mary Ruth Rubio, a graduating student of Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, to enhance the basic knowledge of legislators. Inviting college representatives helped them understand what happens during regular sessions of the Legislative Department of PALSU-USG.
Senator Rubio initiated discussions on proper parliamentary procedure, how to write and create resolutions and bills, and the basic form of writing a committee report.
In addition, this regular session was attended by all elected/appointed senators and representatives from 6 out of 8 colleges, which were: College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology (CEAT); College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE); College of Teacher Education (CTE); College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM); College of Business and Accountancy (CBA); and College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CNHS).
This was the last session attended by Senators Mary Ruth Rubio and Jeri Bernadeth Cortez before their graduation at the end of this month. The session was also a formal farewell to the Senators who have served their terms critically and enthusiastically.
On the other hand, Senator Dador also highlighted a future proposed bill aimed at improving the systematic approach to budgeting. As Chairperson for the Committee on Budget and Finace, Senator Dador emphasized that a better systematic approach should be utilized by all colleges. Updates on this will be posted.
Further, Senate Pro-Tempore Baldoza emphasized the importance of empowering the approved SOGIESC (S*xual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and S*x Characteristics) policy for Palawan State University. Pro-Tempore Baldoza highlighted that this policy should be raised to the Regent of the Federation for adoption.
The discussions were successful, with all present Senators contributing their plans, proposed bills, and other legislation aimed at improving the upcoming Academic Year 2024-2025. The session was a resounding success that emphasized learning, envisioning, and approaching an end with a celebration.
