During the 3rd Quarter 2026 Multi-Sector Governance Council (MSGC) Regular Meeting held on October 8, 2026, AFP Chief of Staff GENERAL ANTONIO G NAFARRETE PA emphasized that the shift toward external defense requires comprehensive institutional transformation to strengthen military readiness and address evolving security challenges.

In line with this transition, the AFP continues to enhance personnel development, modernize military capabilities, ensure efficient resource management, and strengthen partnerships with other institutions to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests.

IN THE NEWS | AFP steps up efforts vs foreign malign influence after China funds claim
MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Tuesday it had taken steps to counter alleged foreign malign influence operations in the country following reports of Chinese funds flowing into a Philippine-based company linked to Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband.
“If they (Chinese) could co-opt a political leader, have him elected by building him up politically through foreign malign influence, they would have achieved their objective without firing a single shot,” AFP spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea (WPS) Rear Adm. Roy Vincent Trinidad told reporters after a briefing at Camp Aguinaldo.
