Freedom-loving Palawenyos for peace and progress in Palawan, the West PH Sea, and whole country 1. Who are we? What do we stand for?

Palawan Patriots for Peace and Progress (“Palawan Patriots”) is a group of concerned residents from the 3rd district of Palawan attuned to the issues and concerns affecting Palawan and the whole country. While the convenor and founding members are mostly from the 3rd district of Palawan (Puerto Princesa City and Aborlan), Palawan Patriots is open for interested Palawenyos from other parts of the p

rovince.

2. Members of “Palawan Patriots” are freedom-loving Palawenyos who advocate for peace and progress in Palawan and the whole Philippines. One of the main concerns of Palawan Patriots is the upholding of the Philippines’ interests in the West Philippine Sea and the need to inform and unite Palawenyos in safeguarding and exercising our sovereign rights over the WPS and our exclusive economic zone.

3. Why prioritize the West Philippine Sea issue? While the group also advocates for peace and progress of the province of Palawan, we believe that Palawenyos should be at the forefront of the fight for our rights in the West Philippine Sea and in uniting Filipinos to support efforts by the government and civil society organizations. Our beloved island province is at the frontline of this national issue, since most of the administered islands and features are within our jurisdiction in the municipality of Kalayaan. The West Philippine Sea, situated west of Palawan island, is considered to be rich in untapped natural resources. Peace and stability in this region will be beneficial for Palawenyos, as it will enable Filipinos to explore this area for development and use of its marine and other natural resources.

The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) confirms the information released by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. yesterday regarding the presence of a floating structure in Bajo de Masinloc.

Aerial monitoring by several agencies has confirmed the presence of a 6x6-meter floating structure with what appears to be an antenna. Latest imagery obtained by the AFP likewise shows the presence of personnel on top of the structure. Recent PCG monitoring further indicates that the platform is currently located within the shoal, with individuals observed onboard.

The NTF-WPS is closely coordinating with relevant government agencies to monitor developments and further assess the nature, purpose, and implications of the installation and related activities within the shoal. Inter-agency efforts are ongoing to establish a complete and accurate picture of the situation.

The Department of Foreign Affairs, Republic of the Philippines has already undertaken appropriate diplomatic action with the government of the People’s Republic of China in connection with the illegal presence of this floating structure. The protection of Philippine sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction remains a paramount consideration. The Philippine Government will continue to take appropriate actions consistent with international law and in defense of the country's national interests.

The NTF-WPS remains steadfast in upholding the rules-based international order, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Arbitral Award. We reiterate that Bajo de Masinloc is an integral part of the Philippines and falls within the country's maritime zones as recognized under international law.
