The Association of Computer Scientists is a college-based organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the academic, professional, and holistic affairs of computer science students.
The Research Colloquium 2026 is part of the curriculum of the BS Computer Science and BS Information Technology and is conducted as an academic requirement and institutional activity. In line with this, the Association of Computer Scientists (ACS) was one of the organizations tasked to assist in the preparation and management of the event as part of the student committee. One of its designated responsibilities was to facilitate the collection of the โฑ1,000 registration fee for the Research Colloquium 2026, which had been properly approved through a resolution prior to its implementation.
Furthermore, the event was organized through the collaborative efforts of both the faculty committee and the student committee. The faculty committee provided oversight and guidance in the decision-making process, particularly in reviewing and approving major components such as budget allocations and overall event planning. The student committee worked under this framework by contributing to the preparation, coordination, and implementation of assigned responsibilities to ensure the successful ex*****on of the event.
The ACS body sincerely apologizes for the lack of transparency regarding the breakdown and utilization of these funds before the collection process. While the original budget breakdown was later revised to a more affordable and minimized cost, resulting in remaining collected funds, the excess amount was intended to be returned to the student once final expenses were settled. We recognize that we failed to communicate this clearly to the students beforehand. We understand that timely communication is important, and we take full responsibility for this oversight.
We also acknowledge the concerns and sentiments raised by the students regarding the clarity of the collection process, the budget allocations, and the dissemination of information related to the event. The organization understands that students deserved earlier and clearer communication regarding these matters. As a student organization that aims to represent and serve the student body, we recognize the importance of openness, consultation, and transparency in all initiatives involving student participation and contributions.
It is never the intention of the organization to withhold information or create confusion among the students. The lapses that occurred were the result of shortcomings in communication and coordination during the preparation process, and these are matters that the organization takes seriously. We understand the disappointment and concerns expressed by students, and we are committed to addressing them with sincerity, improving our internal processes, and ensuring that clearer and more timely communication will be prioritized moving forward.
The organization remains committed to accountability. A complete financial breakdown will be provided, and all remaining collections will be properly returned to their respective student groups. We are taking steps to ensure that future initiatives are handled with the upfront clarity and open communication that our community deserves.
We deeply appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support.
