Another Mama Ranger diary

We are back! We sailed with your support and well-wishes, so we achieved all we went there to do. The sea was uncharacteristically smooth for late November. Oh, to see the happiness in our rangers’ eyes! It was enough reason to go there.

We also completed the seagrass and shell studies and did a tabletop exercise on disaster risk reduction with the help of the Western Command and the 3rd Marine Brigade. The mechanic, Niño, who was not even supposed to be on the trip but was, managed to fix the trim of our outboard engine, so it is working again! And we delivered the hydrophone, which records reef sounds, for the rangers to deploy.
We also delivered one bucket of fried chicken, grilled pork, meat, vegetables, fruits, biscuits, and juice. I pretended not to see a secret stash of spirits because, I am told, it helps with sleep and hastens the passing of another day.

Pieces of broken corals and shells were raked out of the makeshift court where the requisite sports meet, this time basketball, was played with so much ferocity. All manner of footwear, except proper shoes, were worn and these flew about with the sand, the ball, and the players. The visiting forces from M/Y Navorca lost and threatened to annihilate the enemy on the next relieving trip.

I am happy that we broke the monotony of the rangers’ eight weeks in Tubbataha. It was exceedingly sad to see them disappear into the horizon yesterday.

Shall we send them our best wishes? ❤🌈
