After two years of fieldwork in the forests of Aruyan-Malati, Municipality of Sablayan, in the island of Mindoro, we are proud to share that the scientific article resulting from the collaboration with the DENR - Tamaraw Conservation Program Office, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Sablayan.
โCamera-trapping reveals globally threatened mammalian biodiversity in Mindoro, Philippinesโ documents the camera trap surveys conducted between 2020 and 2022 with Andrew Tilker, Emmanuel Schรผtz, Fernando Garcia Gil and Christophe Bonenfant.
The absence of Philippine deer (๐๐ถ๐ด๐ข ๐ฎ๐ข๐ณ๐ช๐ข๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ข) records, despite evidence of former presence, underline conservation needs, while the presence of domestic dogs and cats deep in the forest raises concern of the local small fauna.
The study highlights the importance of protecting the Aruyan-Malati and supporting conservation approaches that work closely with local Taobuid communities while strengthening protection efforts on the ground.
