Mahintana Foundation, Inc., together with Dole Philippines, Inc., through its Chairs-for-Trees (C4T) Project funded by KI Fresh Access Inc. (KIFA), formally turned over 100 bamboo armchairs to Landan Elementary School, Polomolok, South Cotabato, the pioneering site of the first Bamboo Classroom in Mindanao, as part of its sustained commitment to advancing eco-friendly learning environments and strengthening climate-resilient, sustainable education infrastructure.

The bamboo armchairs, developed through engineered bamboo technology and produced by the trained individuals under livelihood reintegration initiatives for Friends Rescued (FR), exemplify an integrated approach that combines sustainable manufacturing, skills development, and social inclusion. This innovation in school furniture systems not only enhances classroom functionality and durability but also contributes to livelihood generation and community rehabilitation.

Supported by the Department of Science and Technology, the initiative underscores a strong multi-sectoral collaboration advancing green technology adoption in the education sectorโ€”promoting environmental stewardship, fostering inclusive growth, and reinforcing long-term community-based sustainability outcomes.

The Polomolok Task Force Kalikasan, Kaligtasan, Kalusugan at Kabuhayan (PTF4K), initiated by Dole Philippines, Inc., successfully convened its Second Quarter Meeting and Strategic Planning Workshop on April 16โ€“17, 2026, aimed at strengthening multi-sectoral coordination and aligning priority programs for sustainable local development.

The activity was attended by representatives from the Local Government Unit of Polomolok, the Sangguniang Bayan, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Administratorโ€™s Office, Public Safety and Security Office, Municipal Sports Office, Department of Education, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, Peopleโ€™s Council, Public Employment and Services Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, Municipal Agriculture Office, Municipal Planning Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Sangguniang Kabataan, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine National Police of Polomolok, with the support of Save the Children Philippines, underscoring a whole-of-government and whole-of-community approach in advancing the Task Forceโ€™s integrated mandate.

On the first day, the delegation conducted a benchmarking activity in Davao City to examine established systems, innovations, and best practices in governance and service delivery. The sites visited included the 911 Emergency Response System, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), City Health Office (CHO), Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), Davao City Special Needs Intervention Center for Children, Davao Food Terminal Complex, and the Davao Museum of History and Ethnography.

On the second day, the Task Force reviewed and synthesized the key learnings from the benchmarking activity and identified corresponding next steps for implementation. The collaboration between ProPEACE PH and the MOVE UP Project successfully brought together community partners for a Kumustahan Session and Livelihood Planning Workshop in Polomolok, South Cotabato.

With 33 participants, from the 14 supported Peopleโ€™s Organizations (POs), the activity created a space for reconnection, shared learning, and reflection across diverse livelihood sectors. The session focused on value chain review and SWOT analysis, equipping POs with practical tools to assess their strengths, address gaps, and identify opportunities for growth and sustainability.

In his opening message, Mr. Roel Ian Blanker emphasized the importance of intentional planning and informed decision-making, highlighting that revisiting value chains and conducting SWOT analyses are not merely technical exercises, but critical processes in building resilient and future-ready community enterprises. His message set the tone for a day grounded in reflection, strategic thinking, and shared purpose.

Ms. Liza Duropan-Lopez reinforced the value of connection and knowledge exchange, underscoring that the strength of each organization is amplified through shared experiences. She noted that several POs within the group have inspiring success stories that serve as models for othersโ€”demonstrating that progress is achievable through collaboration, persistence, and openness to learning.

The session was further enriched by Ms. Marichu T. Lim of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (Field Office XII), who reaffirmed the agencyโ€™s commitment to supporting POs through the EPAHP program. She reminded participants that โ€œevery peso countsโ€ and shared a vision of a future where no Filipino goes hungry by 2040. She also emphasized the importance of the โ€œ3 Aโ€™sโ€”Atik, Alisto, Abilidadโ€”complemented by Ambisyon,โ€ encouraging organizations to pursue higher aspirations and clear long-term goals.

Mr. Neil Dublin of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) highlighted opportunities for market expansion, encouraging POs to maximize existing linkagesโ€”particularly the 50 SLP Community Stores in Polomolok that require consistent supply. He emphasized that strong partnerships can open doors to wider markets and greater livelihood opportunities.

During the feedback and sharing sessions, each PO actively presented updates, revisited their value chains, and conducted SWOT analysis. This process enabled a meaningful exchange of ideas, experiences, and practical solutionsโ€”strengthening organizational strategies and peer learning.

More than just a workshop, the Kumustahan Session reaffirmed a shared commitment to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable livelihoods for communities in Polomolok.

The activity brought the community together to raise awareness on the prevention of Child, Early, and Forced Marriage and Union (CEFMU), adolescent pregnancy, and gender-based violence (GBV). A locally developed child protection referral pathway, crafted with the MSWDO, MHO, and DepEd, was introduced to guide community members in reporting cases and ensuring timely support for children, youth, and women.

Barangay Captain Hon. Benjie Balando underscored that early marriage is a public crime under RA 11596, reinforcing the communityโ€™s role in protecting children. Mr. Jordan Simbanan, member of Fhalami Canaan Habal-Habal Drivers Association further elaborated on the lawโ€™s provisions and the detrimental impact of early unions on adolescent health. Ms. Virgie S. Lani, member of Tubad I Kasbakas Integrated Farmers Association detailed the referral pathway process. Supporting this mission, the childrenโ€™s group, the Satlaban Dad Nga Mda De Barangay New Canaan distributed IEC materials on child safeguarding and the Magna Carta for Women to Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) Officers.

Alongside the advocacy sessions, essential services were delivered through the Purok Kalusugan initiative. Community members, including 4Ps beneficiaries and parents, accessed medical checkups, medicines, and assistance with Pag IBIG and PhilHealth membership through the support of barangay health workers, nutrition scholars, emergency response teams, and nurses.

This convergence of advocacy and services strengthens a shared commitment to a safer, healthier, and more responsive community for every child and family.
