On October 6โ7, 2026, the Local Government Unit of Polomolok conducted a learning visit to the Municipality of Maramag, Bukidnon, to gain insights into the operations and organizational structure of its Office of the Building Official (OBO).
Under the leadership of Mayor Bernie D. Palencia, Polomolok is looking into establishing the OBO as a separate office from the Municipal Engineering Office as the municipality prepares for its development towards component cityhood. The proposed separation aims to give greater focus to building permit processing and regulatory functions, while allowing the Municipal Engineering Office to concentrate on its core engineering responsibilities.It also creates opportunities for additional jobs in Polomolok.
According to Engr. Maria Fe Torregosa, Head of the Office of the Building Official, โWe separate the OBO and Municipal Engineering Office to focus on permitting, as the Municipal Engineering Office is already bombarded with tasks.โ This highlights the importance of a dedicated structure that can provide focused attention to permitting and building regulation while improving the overall delivery of engineering services.
During the visit, the Polomolok team observed Maramagโs systems and practices in OBO operations, including its permitting processes and organizational setup. The experience provided practical insights that may serve as reference in developing a structure suited to Polomolokโs growing needs.
Learning from what works, adapting proven practices, and building systems that respond to a growing community, this is the direction toward a more efficient Bagong Polomolok.
