SLP prepares SLPAs for soya production, processing project in Santa Barbara, Iloilo
The Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI conducts a consultation meeting with its core partners to prepare for the upcoming Soya Production and Processing Project in Santa Barbara, Iloilo.
The meeting brought together SLP participants from two associations: the SBIF SLP Association, composed of 20 farmers who will engage in soya bean production, and the 4BLITZ SLP Association, composed of 15 members who will be trained in soya processing. The SBIF SLPA will focus on cultivating soya beans to provide raw materials, while the 4BLITZ SLPA will handle value-added processing, including taho, soya milk, tofu, and other soy-based products.
The activity served as a platform for local farmers and key collaborators to align on their shared goal of strengthening the local soya industry. The project is backed by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santa Barbara, which has committed to providing guidance and logistical support. The initiative was inspired by a benchmarking visit to Likhaya Food Products, a University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)-assisted social enterprise.
To support the project, SLP will provide Seed Capital Fund assistance to both SLPAs. In addition to financial support, the program will offer capacity-building sessions to enhance the associations’ entrepreneurial and financial management skills.
Meanwhile, Taytay sa Kauswagan, Inc. (TSKI) will serve as a mentoring partner, providing training in enterprise management and marketing strategies. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through its Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) program, will contribute production equipment, training supplies, and technical support to ensure quality processing and packaging of the products.
This collaborative initiative underscores the strong partnership among stakeholders, working hand in hand to empower local farmers, promote sustainable livelihoods, and develop a thriving soya-based enterprise in Santa Barbara./dswd6/cdf/Slroma
