(AMSI) is Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) / Nonprofit organization, which has evolved from a series of charity works because of ones passion in giving back to the community. AMSI’s founder, Myla Bicol, is the youngest of nine siblings and at a very young age she has witnessed how her parents struggled to make ends meet and provide for their family’s needs. It was then that she realized how for
tunate she was that she dreamed of going back home one day to make a difference. Twenty-seven years later, in October of 2006, that dream has been fulfilled. Myla and her sister-in-law Aileen de la Torre started a business called L.I.F.E works Creations. This business has enabled them to go back to the Philippines. Over 1600 children of Palatiw Elementary School received a complete set of school supplies. The joy that they felt in seeing the children’s happy faces inspired them more. Since then, Myla became even more determined to further her cause. She started making frequent trips to the Philippines. She visited several hospitals where she had the chance to speak with parents and their kids suffering from cancer and other serious illnesses. She also visited an Orphanage home where she spent some time with the abandoned children. In one of her visits, she had the opportunity to encounter several children who were on the street late at night as they sift through mounts of garbage. From there she started her feeding program, gift giving and has given scholarship to kids who have the potential and determination to finish their studies. After several years of being involved with young children in need, Myla realized her true calling, and that is to become a mother. She and her husband have decided to adopt a child to fill that missing piece in their hearts. Alexa Mira came into their lives at the age of 9 months. That is where the name AMSI was formed. Alexa serves as an inspiration to help more kids who are abandoned or are neglected due to poverty. AMSI aims to continuously give feeding programs to kids who are malnourished as well as help children by providing scholarships. One and the biggest goals for AMSI is to provide a temporary home in the Philippines for pregnant women who are in crisis situations and needing comprehensive care. The list goes on and on but we want to do it one step at a time because AMSI believes that everything will fall into place if we GIVE...LOVE…INSPIRE!
