As we commemorate the 128th Philippine Independence Day, we are reminded that independence is not complete when accountability is delayed, truth is distorted, and public power is used to protect the powerful.

This Independence Day, we remember that democracy must be defended not only from foreign rule, but from corruption, impunity, historical revisionism, and institutions that fail to act with integrity.

We call for public officials to uphold accountability, for greater transparency in flood control projects, for the Senate to act with integrity, and for justice to remain fair, independent, and responsive to the people.

Young people deserve a country where history is remembered, public office is treated as public trust, and freedom is felt in the lives of ordinary Filipinos.

For an independence rooted in accountability. For a generation that refuses to forget. For a country that deserves better.

YPS & Angat Taytay: Building Stronger Pathways for Youth Participation

Young Public Servants (YPS) and Angat Taytay formalized their partnership through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing during KAMALAYAN III: Makialam, Makilahok, Magtagumpay, Atin Ang Bukas, held on May 27 at the One Cainta Auditorium.

Through this partnership, YPS and Angat Taytay will work together on initiatives that strengthen youth leadership, community engagement, and democratic participation. The MOA also provides a framework for future collaboration in programs that encourage young people to understand public issues, participate in governance, and contribute to responsive local action.

Kamalayan III gathered youth leaders, student representatives, and aspiring public servants from Rizal for a leadership conference centered on transparent, accountable, participatory, and future-ready governance. The event reflected the kind of youth engagement that both organizations seek to sustain through this partnership: informed, grounded, and connected to the realities of communities.

This collaboration affirms the shared commitment of YPS and Angat Taytay to support young people as active citizens and partners in building more inclusive and democratic communities.

The recent Senate incident was not just a breakdown of order. It was a reminder that our vote shapes the kind of leadership we get in moments of crisis.

Sa panahon ng krisis o kaguluhan, mas malinaw kung sino ang dapat nating pagkatiwalaan. We should choose leaders who stay calm, give clear answers, and put the safety and welfare of workers, public servants, and ordinary people first.

We deserve leaders who prioritize people over publicity. Leaders with actual work, not just image. Leaders who offer solutions, not endless allegations. Leaders who respect institutions, not use them to escape accountability.

Young Filipinos are angry because we see the double standard. Ordinary people are expected to follow the law and carry the burden of broken systems. But when the powerful are questioned, accountability becomes negotiable.

It must be used to protect people, uphold justice, and serve the common good, not to shield the powerful or protect political interests.

๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ. ๐‚๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ข๐ ๐ง. ๐•๐จ๐ญ๐ž.

Sa susunod na halalan, piliin natin ang mga pinunong inuuna ang tao, nagbibigay ng linaw at katiyakan, may tunay na solusyon, at hindi ginagawang panangga ang kapangyarihan laban sa pananagutan.

Swipe Right to Vote โ€“ Mindanao Leg ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

On 8 May 2026, over 300 students joined the Swipe Right to Vote โ€“ Mindanao Leg at Mindanao State University โ€“ General Santos (MSU-GenSan) for a day of voter education, civic dialogue, and on-site registration.

From discussions on voter registration and election integrity to conversations on the role of young people in democratic participation, the Mindanao Leg created a space for students to ask questions, engage with election-related issues, and understand how their voices can shape their communities.

The Mindanao Leg further strengthened the campaignโ€™s effort to make voter education more accessible to young Filipinos, especially in schools and communities where conversations on civic responsibility can lead to meaningful participation.

The Mindanao Leg was organized by the Young Public Servants (YPS), in coordination with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), with support from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), and in partnership with Mindanao State University โ€“ General Santos (MSU-GenSan), the MSU-GenSan Supreme Student Council, and LEADERS UNITED FOR PROGRESSIVE ADVOCACIES OF DAVAO-SOCCSKSARGEN (LUPAD).

Swipe Right to Vote โ€“ Mindanao Leg ๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ

The Swipe Right to Vote โ€“ Mindanao Leg gathered over 300 students and community youth leaders for a day of voter education, civic dialogue, and youth participation on 08 May 2026, hosted by Mindanao State University โ€“ General Santos (MSU-GenSan).

As the campaign reached Mindanao, the activity created a space for young people to engage in discussions on democratic participation, voter registration, and the role of the youth in shaping national and local decisions. Through conversations led by COMELEC, youth leaders, and partner organizations, participants were encouraged to see voting not only as a right, but as an active responsibility in building stronger communities.

This leg was implemented by Young Public Servants (YPS), with support from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF), in coordination with the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). It was organized in partnership with MSU-GenSan, the MSU-GenSan Supreme Student Council, and Leaders United for Progressive Advocacies of Davao-SOCCSKSARGEN (LUPAD).

From Luzon to Visayas, and now Mindanao, Swipe Right to Vote continues its rollout with the same call: to build a generation of young Filipinos who are informed, engaged, and ready to take part in democratic processes.

Kabataang mulat, kabataang bumoboto.
