As the Philippines accelerates its shift to electric mobility and clean energy technologies, Clean Air Asia, through the GEF-funded DTI-BOI-UNIDO e-mobility ASAP Project, partnered with Nascent Technologies Corporation to convene one of the country’s first in-depth, multi-stakeholder discussions dedicated to battery recycling and circularity.

Held at Nascent’s research laboratory in Quezon City, the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) brought together representatives from government, industry, academe, development partners, and the private sector to examine how the country can prepare for the growing use of batteries in electric vehicles and energy storage systems, including how these can be safely managed, reused, recycled, and recovered beyond their first life.

In the shift to e-mobility, we must ensure that women are not only passengers, but active drivers and leaders who shape policy, drive technical innovation, and make critical decisions.

Clean Air Asia joined the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in hosting the “Sulong Juana: Women Leadership in Shaping the Future of Industry” at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria on April 22, 2026. This summit commemorated the inaugural International Day of Women in Industry (IDWI), to be celebrated every 21st of April, highlighting the critical role women play in the sector’s evolution.

Clean Air Asia is a co-organizer of this event. Through its implementation of the e-mobility ASAP Project, the organization conducted the breakout session, “Drive for Equity: A Solutions Lab on Gender-Responsive E-Mobility,” which focused on developing actionable, gender-responsive strategies for the industry.

A centerpiece of Clean Air Asia’s participation was the Women’s Gallery. This special exhibition honors the pioneers of the Women in E-Mobility Network and celebrates the contributions of women leaders across various projects affiliated with UNIDO.

With the commemoration of Earth Day on April 22 with the theme, "Our Power, Our Planet," IDWI served as an opportunity to support and celebrate the women in industry driving environmental progress forward, and to continue addressing barriers to enable more women to lead the transformation of industries towards a more sustainable future.

Air pollution is not static; it changes within seconds across short distances. This was one of the key insights participants gained during a two-hour walkability tour at the BAQ 2026 last month.

Organized by AirGradient, the “Bangkok Air Walk” allowed participants to track real-time air pollution spikes along urban routes using a portable air quality monitor.

As we marked Earth Day this week, the Bangkok Air Walk serves as a reminder that understanding environmental challenges begins at the community level, and that we all have the power to act and advocate for a cleaner, healthier planet

In line with this year’s Earth Day theme “Our Power, Our Planet”, Clean Air Asia, together with the International Rice Research Institute and the Climate Clean Air Coalition, convened different Philippine government agencies on April 21 to advance a national strategy for reducing short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) from the country’s rice sub-sector.

The consultation focused on the Tier 2 emissions inventory — and essential evidence-base for shaping the Philippines’ rice mitigation strategy which includes methodology, preliminary results for the bussines-as-usual scenario, and national targets for the mitigation scenarios.

Representatives from this consultation highlighted the importance for strong stakeholder alignment around the input data and clear definitions of mitigation strategies to ensure accurate emissions accounting and effective climate action.

Today is Earth Day, and this year’s theme “Our Power, Our Planet” is a reminder of our shared responsibility and collective power to protect air quality and the health of our planet.

Across Asia and the Pacific, billions of people are continuously exposed to unsafe air, posing serious health concerns and economic consequences. But progress is happening.

At the Better Air Quality conference (BAQ) 2026 last month, it was highlighted how accelerating action to address air quality challenges is possible when matched with sustained commitment and collective effort.

Here’s why air quality solutions must be scaled now.
